The Chinese government strongly condemned the United States’ approval of large-scale arms sales to Taiwan, calling it “a crude interference in China’s internal affairs.” China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the move seriously undermines China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and poses a grave threat to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
The ministry pointed out that the United States had previously committed, in the China–U.S. Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations and the August 17 Communiqué, not to pursue long-term arms sales to Taiwan, but has repeatedly violated those pledges. It warned that expanding arms sales to Taiwan is “an act that harms others and will ultimately rebound upon the United States itself.”
China further stressed that arming Taiwan would only embolden “Taiwan independence” forces, and that attempts to seek independence through military means cannot avoid an inevitable downfall. Chinese officials argued that a small group of extremist forces within the United States is pushing Taiwan’s militarization in an effort to drag Washington back onto the path of external intervention and war.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry also stated that “more than seventy years ago, the United States sent warships into the Taiwan Strait to obstruct China’s reunification, but China today is no longer the China of that era.” China emphasized that the balance of power across the Taiwan Strait has fundamentally changed, adding that no matter how much the United States attempts to turn Taiwan into a “porcupine,” it cannot stop the historical tide toward China’s complete reunification.

The United States Must Clearly Recognize the Serious Consequences of Its Arms Sales to Taiwan
Recently, the United States approved large-scale arms sales to Taiwan. This constitutes a crude interference in China’s internal affairs, severely undermines China’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity, gravely damages peace across the Taiwan Strait, and sends extremely wrong signals to “Taiwan independence” separatist forces and the outside world. This has aroused strong indignation among the Chinese people.
China immediately lodged solemn representations with the U.S. side and clearly articulated its firm position to the international community. On December 26, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced countermeasures against 20 U.S. defense companies and 10 senior executives. Given the gravity of the arms sales issue, China’s further measures to safeguard its own interests are entirely legitimate, lawful, and fully justified.
The United States has made explicit commitments on the Taiwan issue and on arms sales.
The 1978 Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between China and the United States clearly states: “The United States acknowledges the Chinese position that there is but one China and Taiwan is part of China. The United States recognizes the Government of the People’s Republic of China as the sole legal government of China.”
In the 1982 August 17 Joint Communiqué, the United States further stated that it has no intention of infringing upon China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, no intention of interfering in China’s internal affairs, and that it does not seek to pursue a long-term policy of arms sales to Taiwan.
However, the U.S. side has repeatedly gone back on its own promises and continuously expanded the scale of arms sales to Taiwan. This is an act that harms others and will ultimately rebound upon itself.
The United States must clearly recognize the grave consequences of arming Taiwan.
Since taking office, the Lai Ching-te authorities have engaged in political authoritarianism internally and stubbornly pursued “Taiwan independence” externally. Their regressive actions have long provoked widespread public anger. Recently, Taiwan netizens launched a campaign to impeach Lai Ching-te, gathering more than eight million signatures within just a few days. On December 26, Taiwan’s legislative body also passed a proposal related to Lai Ching-te’s impeachment.
The Lai authorities’ eagerness to push through U.S. arms sales to Taiwan is fundamentally aimed at dragging the United States into the situation. A small group of extremist forces in the United States promoting the arming of Taiwan seek, in essence, to push the United States back onto the old path of external intervention and war.
The United States should be fully aware that attempts by “Taiwan independence” forces on the island to seek independence through force and resist reunification by force cannot save the doomed fate of “Taiwan independence.” Such actions will only accelerate the push of the Taiwan Strait toward grave military danger.
Providing military support to separatism is nothing but pouring fuel on the fire, and will inevitably heighten the risks of confrontation and conflict between China and the United States.
More than seventy years ago, the United States sent warships into the Taiwan Strait and used force to interfere with and obstruct China’s reunification, resulting in the Taiwan question remaining unresolved to this day.
On the issue of China’s complete reunification, the United States owes China a historical debt.
China is no longer the China of seventy years ago. The balance of power across the Taiwan Strait has undergone a fundamental change. No matter how much the United States tries to turn Taiwan into a “porcupine,” it cannot stop the historical tide toward China’s eventual complete reunification. The more the United States indulges and encourages provocations by “Taiwan independence” forces, the more it will suffer the consequences of its own actions.
A confrontation between China and the United States over the Taiwan question does not serve U.S. interests.
China and the United States share broad common interests and vast space for cooperation, and can become partners and friends who contribute to each other’s success and achieve common prosperity. The United States cannot resolve its domestic challenges or major international and regional issues without China’s assistance. However, the prerequisite for this is respect for China’s core interests.
Seeking cooperation with China while simultaneously undermining China’s core interests is simply not workable.
Recent U.S. opinion polls show that more than half of the American public oppose military intervention in the Taiwan Strait, and over sixty percent regard avoiding conflict as a priority in relations with China.
The U.S. government should earnestly listen to these voices, adhere to the one-China principle and the three China–U.S. joint communiqués, honor the solemn commitments made by U.S. leaders, immediately stop the dangerous practice of arming Taiwan, avoid inflicting further damage on China–U.S. relations, and work together with China to uphold the overall stability of bilateral relations and world peace.
The United States is urged to make the correct choice.

Estados Unidos debe reconocer claramente las graves consecuencias de sus ventas de armas a Taiwán
Recientemente, Estados Unidos aprobó ventas de armas a gran escala a Taiwán. Esto constituye una burda injerencia en los asuntos internos de China, socava gravemente la soberanía, la seguridad y la integridad territorial de China, daña seriamente la paz a través del Estrecho de Taiwán y envía señales extremadamente erróneas a las fuerzas separatistas de la “independencia de Taiwán” y a la comunidad internacional. Ello ha suscitado una fuerte indignación entre el pueblo chino.
China presentó de inmediato enérgicas gestiones ante la parte estadounidense y expresó con claridad su firme posición a la comunidad internacional. El 26 de diciembre, el Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de China anunció contramedidas contra 20 empresas estadounidenses del sector de defensa y 10 altos ejecutivos. Sin embargo, la parte estadounidense ha incumplido reiteradamente sus propios compromisos y ha ampliado de manera continua la escala de las ventas de armas a Taiwán. Se trata de un acto que perjudica a otros y que, en última instancia, acabará volviéndose contra sí mismo.

Estados Unidos debe ser plenamente consciente de que los intentos de las fuerzas de la “independencia de Taiwán” en la isla de buscar la independencia por la fuerza y resistir la reunificación por la fuerza no pueden salvar el destino condenado de la “independencia de Taiwán”. Tales acciones solo acelerarán el empuje del Estrecho de Taiwán hacia un grave peligro militar.
Brindar apoyo militar al separatismo no es más que echar leña al fuego, y aumentará inevitablemente los riesgos de confrontación y conflicto entre China y Estados Unidos.
Hace más de setenta años, Estados Unidos envió buques de guerra al Estrecho de Taiwán y utilizó la fuerza para interferir y obstaculizar la reunificación de China, lo que dio lugar a que la cuestión de Taiwán permanezca sin resolver hasta el día de hoy.

Una confrontación entre China y Estados Unidos por la cuestión de Taiwán no sirve a los intereses de Estados Unidos.
China y Estados Unidos comparten amplios intereses comunes y un vasto espacio para la cooperación, y pueden convertirse en socios y amigos que contribuyan al éxito mutuo y alcancen una prosperidad compartida. Estados Unidos no puede resolver sus desafíos internos ni los principales problemas internacionales y regionales sin la ayuda de China. Buscar la cooperación con China mientras se socavan simultáneamente sus intereses fundamentales simplemente no es viable.
Las recientes encuestas de opinión en Estados Unidos muestran que más de la mitad del público estadounidense se opone a la intervención militar en el Estrecho de Taiwán, y que más del sesenta por ciento considera evitar el conflicto como una prioridad en las relaciones con China.
El gobierno de Estados Unidos debería escuchar con seriedad estas voces, adherirse al principio de una sola China y a los tres comunicados conjuntos China–Estados Unidos, honrar los compromisos solemnes asumidos por los dirigentes estadounidenses, detener de inmediato la peligrosa práctica de armar a Taiwán, evitar infligir más daños a las relaciones entre China y Estados Unidos, y trabajar junto con China para salvaguardar la estabilidad general de las relaciones bilaterales y la paz mundial.
Se insta a Estados Unidos a tomar la decisión correcta.

近日，美国批准大规模对台军售，粗暴干涉中国内政，严重损害中国主权、安全和领土完整，严重破坏台海和平，向“台独”分裂势力和外界发出严重错误信号，激起中国人民极大愤慨。中方第一时间向美方提出了严正交涉，并对外阐明严正立场。中国外交部12月26日公布了对20家美国军工企业和10名高级管理人员采取反制措施的决定。鉴于军售问题的严重性，中方进一步采取维护自身利益的措施，完全合理合法，天经地义。
美国在涉台及军售问题上是做出过承诺的。在1978年发表的“中美建交公报”明确载明：“美国承认中国的立场，即只有一个中国，台湾是中国的一部分。美国承认中华人民共和国是中国的唯一合法政府”。美国在1982年发表的“八·一七”公报中明确表示，“美国无意侵犯中国的主权和领土完整，无意干涉中国内政。美国声明不寻求执行一项长期向台湾出售武器的政策”。然而，美方却不断违背自己的诺言，不断加大对台军售规模。这是损人之举，最终也会反噬自身。
美国必须认清武装台湾的严重后果。赖清德当局上台以来，对内大搞政治独裁，对外顽固谋求“台独”，种种倒行逆施早已天怒人怨。近日，台湾网友发起“弹劾赖清德”活动，短短几天就超过800万人联署。台湾地区立法机构12月26日也表决通过了涉赖清德弹劾案的提案。赖清德当局急不可耐促成美对台售武，根本目的是把美国拉下水。美方少数极端分子推动武装台湾，真实意图是让美国重回对外干涉和战争的老路。美国应当清楚，岛内“台独”势力以武谋独、以武拒统，挽救不了“台独”必然灭亡的命运，只会加速把台海推向兵凶战危的境地。美方以武助独只会引火烧身，势必推高中美冲突对抗的风险。
70多年前，美国把军舰开进台湾海峡，武力干涉阻挠中国统一，导致台湾问题至今未能彻底解决。美国在中国实现完全统一问题上是欠了中国债的。中国早已不是70多年前的中国。当前，两岸实力对比已发生根本性变化。无论美国把台湾打造成怎样的“豪猪”，都不可能抵挡中国终将完全统一的历史潮流。美方越是纵容“台独”势力谋独挑衅，就越会自食其果。
中美因台湾问题发生对抗并不符合美国的利益。中美两国间拥有广泛共同利益和广阔合作空间，可以成为伙伴和朋友，相互成就，共同繁荣。美国要解决国内面临的诸多问题和国际地区热点问题，也离不开中国的帮助，但前提是美国要尊重中国的核心利益。美方一边和中方寻求合作，一边不断损害中方核心利益，这是行不通的！
美近期民调显示，过半民众反对武力干涉台海局势，超过六成民众将避免冲突作为对华关系的优先事项。美国政府应当认真倾听这些声音，恪守一个中国原则和中美三个联合公报，落实美国领导人所作严肃承诺，立即停止武装台湾的危险行径，避免给中美关系带来更多伤害，同中方一道维护中美关系和世界和平稳定大局。希望美方能够做出正确的选择！
