Belgrade Anti-fascist Protest: MILAN NEDIĆ–Servant of the Occupier

NKPJ and SKOJ took part in an antifascist rally held in Belgrade on February 4, 2025, at which more than 1000 people were present at the peak of the protest, with the goal of preventing a neo-Nazi rally organized in commemoration of Milan Nedić (a quisling prime minister of Serbia during Nazi occupation), marking 80 years since his suicide, which he committed by jumping through a prison window where he was held in investigative custody.

Our activists carried a banner with the message: “Always against occupation”, alongside crossed-out symbols of the swastika, NATO and the EU. Together with other antifascists, our activists sang partisan and communist songs such as “Po šumama i gorama (also known as Partisan song)”, “Bandiera Rossa”, and “Bella Ciao”. The following slogans were chanted: “Servant of the occupier”, “Milan Nedić – fascist”, “Death to fascism – freedom to the people”, as well as messages directed to neo-Nazis: “Neo-Nazis will not pass”, “Ustaše”, “Go to Bleiburg”, and others.

NKPJ and SKOJ remind that:

* Milan Nedić, who served the interests of the Nazi-fascist occupier during World War II, was a traitor to the Serbian people and Yugoslavia.

* He led a quisling, puppet “government” that actively served and assisted the occupying troops.

* He organized quisling armed formations which fought against the partisan movement and were financed by the occupation authorities.

* During World War II he was on the same side as other traitors of the Yugoslav peoples: the White Guards, the Ustaše, the pro-fascist militias, the Greens (Montenegrian collaborationists), Ballists (Albanian fascists), Volksdeutsche (local German collaborators), VMRO members (Macedonian-Bulgarian collaborationists), and Chetniks.

* He was responsible for the mass arrests of Jews and Roma, who were later killed in concentration camps and other execution sites.

* As a sympathizer of fascism, he enacted antisemitic, anti-Roma, and other racist laws and regulations.

* He organized prisons and dungeons in which communists, antifascists, and other patriots were killed.

* He did not “save” the Serbian people, rather but handed Serbs over to the fascist occupier and is directly responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of Serbs.

* Milan Nedić represents a disgrace to the Serbian people and deserves only contempt and condemnation.

NKPJ and SKOJ, together with other antifascists, demonstrated strength through mass gathering and thereby prevented neo-Nazi hooligans from holding their event. NKPJ and SKOJ will always stand on the front lines of the struggle against fascism, with the clear position that fascism has no place in the streets of Belgrade.
