PDP Spokesperson Report-Kenyan Authorities Must Immediately Release the Platform Delegation, Including the Representative of the PDP!

[Spokesperson Report (Statement) 665]

Kenyan Authorities Must Immediately Release the World Anti-Imperialist Platform Delegation, Including the Representative of the People’s Democracy Party!

At 11:50 AM on May 12, the fascist Ruto authorities in Kenya illegally and violently detained members of the World Anti-Imperialist Platform delegation, including Lee Sang-hoon, former representative of the People’s Democracy Party (PDP) and leader of the 21st Century Che Guevara Group. A total of 13 individuals were detained, including Joti Brar, representative of the Communist Party of Great Britain (CPGB-ML, Britain); Dimitrios Patelis, founding member of the Revolutionary Theory Group (Greece); the Deputy Director of the International Department of the PDP; the PASAI international delegation; and members of the Communist Party Marxist Kenya (CPMK). At the time, a World Anti-Imperialist Joint Struggle organized by the World Anti-Imperialist Platform against the “Africa–France Summit (Africa Forward Summit)” was underway in Nairobi, Kenya. Kenyan soldiers blocked the legal march, for which a rally notice had been filed, only 20 minutes after it began, and started a repressive and ruthless crackdown and detention.

This is a vicious challenge not only to Kenyan law but also to international law. Kenya’s constitution guarantees freedom of assembly. By deploying the military for a task that, under the legal system, belongs to the police for maintaining public order, the authorities have completely violated the principles of political neutrality and civilian control. Arrests without warrants and the absence of notification of the reasons for detention also constitute unconstitutional and heinous public security suppression. Furthermore, this is a worst-case atrocity that annihilates universal human rights, including the freedom of the person and the right to peaceful assembly recognized under international law, such as the ICCPR (International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights), the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, and the Vienna Convention (Consular Assistance and Rights of Foreigners). The People’s Democracy Party strongly condemns the heinous atrocities of the Kenyan fascist authorities that violate international law and human rights.

Imperialist aggressor forces stand behind the fascist repression against members of the World Anti-imperialist Platform. The Africa–France Summit (Africa Forward) held on May 11–12 was an event organized by French imperialism, which had been expelled from the three Sahel states where anti-imperialist forces have come to power, in an attempt to establish East Africa, including Kenya, as a new base for hegemonic domination.

The Ruto regime is strengthening its fascist rule by sacrificing the Kenyan people and their wealth; it has not only signed a non-NATO alliance with the US and submitted to the IMF economic system, but is also pursuing military and economic collusion with French imperialism. The viciousness of the Ruto regime is clearly demonstrated through the repeated political terrorism, illegal detentions, violence, and torture aimed at Booker Omole, Secretary General of the Communist Party Marxist Kenya (CPMK). Where there is repression, there is resistance. The People’s Democracy Party and the World Anti-Imperialist Platform, together with the African people and progressive humanity worldwide, will more actively develop the global anti-imperialist struggle to overthrow imperialism and fascism and surely realize a new world of independence, democracy, and peace.

Immediately release all arrested activists!

Immediately release the delegation of the World Anti-Imperialist Platform!

Immediately release Representative Lee Sang-hoon and members of the People’s Democracy Party!

Immediately stop the fascist repression of the progressive movement!
