Activists arrested in Nairobi for peacefully protesting against imperialism
The Pole of Communist Renaissance in France (PRCF) firmly condemns the arrest by Kenyan police of more than a dozen anti-imperialist activists in Nairobi. Their crime? Peacefully protesting against imperialism, particularly French imperialism, and participating in the counter-summit organized by the World Anti-Imperialist Platform against the so-called “Africa-France Summit.” Among those arrested are prominent anti-imperialist and revolutionary activists, intellectuals, and organizers from different parts of the world (notably Greece, South Korea, and Great Britain) who came to demonstrate their solidarity with the African masses struggling against imperialism, militarization, and neocolonial domination. They were arrested for daring to express their solidarity with the oppressed, workers and peasants, of the African continent and for daring to assert that Africa is not for sale.
The PRCF is particularly alarmed by these arrests, which illustrate—if any further proof were needed—the importance for the former colonial powers (former, yet still relentless) to preserve their “privileges” on the African continent. This is especially true for France—and Macron’s presence in Kenya is there to demonstrate it. For French imperialism, it is about preserving Bolloré’s holdings in Cameroon or the projects of the MEDEF, which wishes to “design a Francophone economic space.” (No, this has nothing to do with defending the French language, but everything to do with preserving capitalist prebends.) Yes, but the French oligarchy is increasingly losing its footing in this “backyard” that is Françafrique to them: the Sahel states no longer want to allow themselves to be plundered, and the attempted coup perpetrated in Mali will not change things in the long term. Even by relying on the comprador bourgeoisies of African countries, such as, in this instance, the Kenyan bourgeoisie.
The Communist Party Marxist Kenya (CPMK) is perfectly clear on this matter: it firmly condemns the arrests, intimidation, and harassment perpetrated by the Kenyan state against local and international comrades who participated in the demonstration against French imperialism and the counter-summit against the so-called “Africa Forward Summit.” This is the work of “a neocolonial and comprador administration acting to defend imperialist interests at the expense of the democratic rights of the people. The regime has chosen to criminalize anti-imperialist solidarity while rolling out the red carpet for foreign exploiters and agents of monopoly capital,” it asserts in its statement—which the PRCF can only approve.
The Pole of Communist Renaissance in France reaffirms its unwavering solidarity with the arrested comrades and with the actions of the World Anti-Imperialist Platform. Furthermore, the PRCF reiterates its full solidarity with the Communist Party of Kenya, and in particular its Secretary General, Booker Ngesa Omole, who was violently abducted last February by the Kenyan police.

Des militants arrêtés à Nairobi pour avoir manifesté pacifiquement contre l’impérialisme
Le Pôle de Renaissance communiste en France condamne fermement l’arrestation par la police kényane de plus d’une dizaine de militants anti-impérialistes à Nairobi. Leur crime ? Manifester pacifiquement contre l’impérialisme, notamment français, et participer au contre-sommet organisé par la Plateforme anti-impérialiste mondiale contre le prétendu « sommet France-Afrique ». Parmi les personnes arrêtées figurent d’éminents militants anti-impérialistes et révolutionnaires, des intellectuels et des organisateurs venus de différentes parties du monde (notamment de Grèce, de Corée du Sud, de Grande-Bretagne) pour manifester leur solidarité avec les masses africaines en lutte contre l’impérialisme, la militarisation et la domination néocoloniale. Ils ont été arrêtés pour avoir osé exprimer leur solidarité avec les opprimés, ouvriers et paysans, du continent africain et avoir osé affirmer que l’Afrique n’est pas à vendre.
Le PRCF est particulièrement alerté par ces arrestations, qui illustrent, si c’était encore nécessaire, l’importance qu’a pour les anciennes puissances coloniales – anciennes mais toujours acharnées, – à conserver leurs « privilèges » sur le continent africain. C’est particulièrement vrai pour la France – et la présence de Macron au Kenya est là pour le démontrer. Il s’agit pour l’impérialisme français de préserver les possessions de Bolloré au Cameroun ou encore les projets du MEDEF, qui souhaite « dessiner un espace économique francophone ». (Non, cela n’a rien à voir avec la défense de la langue française, mais tout avec la préservation des prébendes capitalistes.) Oui, mais l’oligarchie française perd de plus en plus pied dans ce « pré carré » qu’est pour elle la Françafrique : les États du Sahel ne veulent plus se laisser piller, et ce n’est pas la tentative de coup d’État perpétrée au Mali qui fera changer durablement les choses. Même en s’appuyant sur les bourgeoisies compradores des pays africains, comme, en l’occurrence, la bourgeoisie kényane.
Le Parti communiste marxiste du Kenya est parfaitement clair à ce propos : il condamne fermement les arrestations, les intimidations et le harcèlement perpétrés par l’État kenyan à l’encontre de camarades locaux et internationaux qui ont participé à la manifestation contre l’impérialisme français et au contre-sommet contre le soi-disant « Africa Forward Summit ». C’est le fait d’« une administration néocoloniale et compradore agissant pour défendre les intérêts impérialistes au détriment des droits démocratiques du peuple. Le régime a choisi de criminaliser la solidarité anti-impérialiste tout en déroulant le tapis rouge aux exploiteurs étrangers et aux agents du capital monopoliste », affirme-t-il dans son communiqué – que le PRCF ne peut qu’approuver.
Le Pôle de Renaissance communiste en France réaffirme sa solidarité sans faille avec les camarades arrêtés et avec l’action de la Plateforme anti-impérialiste mondiale. En outre, le PRCF réitère sa pleine solidarité avec le Parti communiste marxiste du Kenya, et en particulier son secrétaire général, Booker Ngesa Omole, qui a été violemment enlevé en février dernier par la police kényane.
