To the People of Venezuela and All Workers of the World,
As the Unity of Struggle, we are filled with deep sorrow and a strong sense of solidarity following the devastating earthquakes of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 that shook Venezuela on June 24. We respectfully remember our brothers and sisters who lost their lives in this disaster, and we wish a swift recovery to the injured and patience to their loved ones.
This tragic picture is not merely a natural event, but also a consequence of the current imperialist system of exploitation. Venezuela, already gripped by a deep economic and social crisis due to years of unjust embargoes and interventions, has had its existing wounds reopened by this earthquake, further damaging infrastructure and making the people’s struggle for survival even harder. And we must not forget that these destructions and deaths are also a result of the embargo and pressure created by the imperialist system. We believe that without the pressure and embargo, the Bolivarian Revolution could have developed further and could have devoted more time and resources to the infrastructure and superstructure needed to reduce the losses from today’s natural disaster.
As the Unity of Struggle, we believe in the importance of international solidarity and socialist internationalism in the face of such disasters. The fact that tens of thousands of people are still under the rubble and hundreds of thousands are left homeless in Venezuela today is a common test for the workers of the world. Therefore:
1. We call on all peoples of the world and progressive forces to stand by the Venezuelan people and to raise their voices for the lifting of all sanctions imposed on their country.
2. We demand that international aid be delivered with an understanding that prioritizes human needs over imperialist interests and is free from exploitation.
As the Unity of Struggle, we stand by the workers and oppressed people of Venezuela in these difficult days. Their pain is our pain, their struggle is our struggle. Our faith in the Venezuelan people’s will and strength to overcome this devastation is complete.
Long live international solidarity!
