“The Korean People’s Resistance Remains One of the Greatest Examples of Anti-imperialist Struggle in Modern History”
Mafa Kwanisai Mafa | Zimbabwe Movement of Pan-African Socialists
Message of Solidarity
On behalf of progressive friends and comrades in Zimbabwe, I extend warm revolutionary greetings to the organisers, participants, and the people of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea on the occasion of the 73rd Anniversary of the Victory in the Korean War.
This commemoration reminds us of the enduring importance of defending national sovereignty, independence, and the right of every people to determine their own future free from external interference.
We express our solidarity with all peoples striving for peace, justice, equality, and genuine self-determination. We reaffirm our support for a world founded upon respect for sovereignty, peaceful coexistence, multilateral cooperation, and the principles of the United Nations Charter.
As Africa continues its own struggle against the remaining structures of colonialism, neo-colonial dependency, unilateral coercive measures, and unequal international relations, we recognise the importance of strengthening solidarity among nations of the Global South.
Let this conference deepen friendship, expand cooperation, and strengthen mutual understanding between progressive organisations across the world. Through dialogue, international solidarity, and principled cooperation, we can contribute to building a more just, equitable, and peaceful international order.
Long live international solidarity among the peoples of the world.
Long live friendship between Africa and Korea.
Another world based on justice, sovereignty, equality, and peace is possible.
Thank you.
Welcome Address
Distinguished comrades, representatives of progressive movements, scholars, friends of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, and anti-imperialist forces gathered from across the world,
On behalf of the Zimbabwe Movement of Pan-African Socialists, I extend revolutionary greetings and militant solidarity to all delegates assembled to commemorate the 73rd Anniversary of the Victory in the Korean War. We salute the heroic people of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea for their historic triumph over imperialist aggression and for their unwavering defence of their sovereignty, dignity, and socialist path of development.
The victory achieved by the Korean people in 1953 was not merely a military achievement. It was a profound political and ideological defeat for imperialism. It demonstrated that no matter how powerful an aggressor may appear, a united people inspired by patriotism, revolutionary consciousness, and socialist ideals can defeat foreign domination. The Korean people’s resistance remains one of the greatest examples of anti-imperialist struggle in modern history.
For us in Africa, this anniversary carries immense significance. The struggles against colonialism, apartheid, neo-colonial exploitation, and economic domination are inseparable from the Korean people’s struggle against imperialism. Zimbabwe’s liberation was achieved through armed struggle against settler colonialism, and we fully understand that freedom is never granted voluntarily by imperialist powers. It is won through sacrifice, organisation, unity, and revolutionary determination.
Today, imperialism has merely changed its methods. Military invasions are increasingly complemented by illegal sanctions, economic coercion, financial manipulation, information warfare, political interference, and attempts at regime change. Nations that refuse to surrender their sovereignty continue to be targeted through collective punishment and relentless propaganda. The DPRK has endured decades of these hostile policies while steadfastly safeguarding its independence and socialist system.
As Pan-African Socialists, we reject every manifestation of imperialist domination, whether directed against Korea, Cuba, Palestine, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, the Sahel, or any sovereign nation resisting external control. We reaffirm that the struggle against imperialism is international in character and demands international solidarity among progressive peoples.
Africa cannot attain genuine political and economic liberation while imperialist structures continue to dominate global finance, trade, technology, and security. The future belongs to sovereign nations cooperating on the basis of equality, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence-not exploitation, coercion, and hegemonic domination.
The Korean War teaches us that resistance is not only possible but necessary whenever the sovereignty of nations is threatened. It reminds us that revolutionary vigilance must accompany every generation. The defence of national independence, social justice, and socialism remains as relevant today as it was seventy-three years ago.
We therefore salute the Korean people for preserving their independence despite unprecedented external pressure. Their resilience continues to inspire progressive movements across Africa and the Global South. Their determination reminds us that dignity cannot be sanctioned, independence cannot be bombed into submission, and the aspirations of free peoples cannot be extinguished by imperialist aggression.
As we commemorate this historic victory, let this conference strengthen the bonds of solidarity among all anti-imperialist forces. Let it deepen cooperation between Africa and the Korean people. Let it renew our collective commitment to building a multipolar world founded upon justice, sovereignty, equality, socialism, and lasting peace.
The Zimbabwe Movement of Pan-African Socialists pledges its continued solidarity with all peoples resisting imperialism and neocolonialism. Together, we shall continue to oppose every form of foreign domination, defend the right of nations to determine their own destinies, and struggle for a world free from exploitation and oppression.
Long live the heroic people of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea!
Long live international solidarity!
Long live Pan-Africanism and socialism!
Downwith imperialism!to the struggling peoples of the world.
Thank you.
Presentation Paper
Distinguished representatives of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, respected organisers, comrades, friends, and participants,
I extend revolutionary greetings from Zimbabwe and express my sincere gratitude for the invitation to participate in this important international conference commemorating the 73rd Anniversary of the Victory in the Korean War.
This anniversary is not merely a remembrance of a historical event. It is a reaffirmation that peoples determined to defend their sovereignty can resist overwhelming external pressure. The Korean War demonstrated that military superiority alone cannot extinguish the determination of a people committed to defending their independence and national dignity.
For progressive forces throughout Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean, the Korean experience occupies an important place in the wider history of anti-colonial and anti-imperialist struggles. Many nations that later achieved independence drew inspiration from peoples who refused to surrender their sovereignty despite enormous political, economic, and military pressure.
Africa understands the cost of colonial domination. Zimbabwe itself endured decades of settler colonialism before winning independence through a prolonged liberation struggle. Our history teaches us that national liberation is never simply granted; it is won through unity, sacrifice, resilience, and unwavering commitment to self-determination. These historical experiences create a basis for solidarity among peoples resisting domination in different forms.
Today, imperialism continues to manifest itself through economic coercion, unilateral sanctions, military alliances, foreign interference, financial domination, information warfare, and attempts to dictate political systems to sovereign nations. These methods seek to weaken independent development and preserve unequal global power relations.
The Korean Peninsula remains one of the clearest examples of the continuing tensions produced by Cold War legacies. Lasting peace cannot be achieved through confrontation, threats, or coercive measures. Durable peace requires mutual respect, dialogue, recognition of sovereignty, and adherence to international law.
The contemporary international environment is also witnessing profound changes. New centres of economic growth, technological advancement, and political cooperation are contributing to a more multipolar international order. Many developing countries are increasingly asserting their right to determine their own development paths free from external interference.
Africa’s future depends upon strengthening South-South cooperation, expanding mutually beneficial partnerships, investing in science and technology, protecting national resources, and building economies that serve the interests of their own people rather than external powers. International solidarity among developing nations remains an essential component of this vision.
The struggle against neo-colonialism is not only political; it is also ideological. It requires defending historical truth against distortion, promoting independent scholarship, encouraging cultural exchange, and resisting narratives that seek to delegitimise sovereign choices made by independent nations.
Young people have a particularly important role in this struggle. They must become builders of peace, defenders of national sovereignty, advocates for social justice, and champions of international cooperation. Progressive youth organisations should strengthen exchanges across continents, deepen political education, and cultivate solidarity based on equality and mutual respect.
Universities and research institutions likewise have a responsibility to encourage objective scholarship on international relations, anti-colonial struggles, and peaceful coexistence. Academic cooperation can contribute significantly to reducing misunderstanding between peoples and promoting constructive dialogue.
The legacy of the victory commemorated today reminds us that history is shaped by the determination of ordinary people to defend their dignity and independence. While circumstances differ across nations, the universal principles of sovereignty, equality among states, peaceful coexistence, and respect for self-determination remain fundamental to a stable international order.
As progressive people around the world commemorate this historic anniversary, we reaffirm our commitment to international solidarity among nations resisting domination, inequality, and injustice. We support dialogue over confrontation, cooperation over coercion, and mutual respect over unilateralism.
May the friendship between the peoples of Africa and Korea continue to grow.
May international solidarity among progressive peoples become stronger.
May peace founded upon justice, sovereignty, and equality prevail.
Thank you.
