“Down with Imperialism! Down with NATO!” World Anti-Imperialist Platform Protests NATO Summit in The Hague on June 25 (2)

After the anti-NATO propaganda campaign in The Hague on the afternoon of the 25th, the second rally featured slogans such as “STOP THE US IMPERIALIST WAR DRIVE!” and “STOP ISRAEL’S ATTACK ON IRAN!”

The Baltic Platform strongly condemned NATO, stating, “The problem with NATO is not just about foreign troops; it’s also about the member states themselves. They are trying to make it mandatory to raise military spending to up to 5% of GDP. Funds that should be used for healthcare and welfare are being drained. This completely goes against the interests of the working class.”

He added, “The Western powers gathered in the Netherlands are taking actions against the people. We must stand in solidarity with those under imperialist attack, such as Palestine. Let us rise up and fight against the Western bourgeoisie.”

Edmundo Albornoz of the Communist Party of Ecuador stated, “The war in Ukraine is not a regional issue. It began with NATO’s aggression against Russia.” He emphasized, “Today, a crucial task in the struggle against imperialism is the dismantling of NATO. The crisis of war in East Asia is also deepening. Hegemony is no longer as strong as it once was. We must organize and mobilize the people.”

Lasha Shavdiya, representative of the Socialist Platform (Georgia), declared, “NATO is a global monster. It is the biggest obstacle to the reintegration of post-Soviet countries.” He argued, “We need unity. We have no other choice. We must unite with the economically strongest country—Russia. That is our only alternative.”

He continued, “We want freedom. We want to determine our own destiny. We want independence from the West, from NATO. All peoples who love freedom must come together again and break free from the oppression they are experiencing across the world.”

The rally continued with large banners bearing the slogans “DOWN WITH IMPERIALISM! DOWN WITH NATO!”, “DISBAND NATO!”, and “STOP THE US IMPERIALIST WAR DRIVE!”

Vukašin Žunić, Central Committee member of the League of Socialist Youth of Yugoslavia (SKOJ), condemned NATO, stating, “Over the next ten years, NATO has decided to increase its member states’ defense spending by an additional 5%. This means more weapons will be produced, more money will be spent on war, and more countries will be attacked and destroyed.”

He continued, “They have also announced plans to expand the arms industry. The expansion of the arms industry means more destructive weapons will be needed. But why do we need more weapons? NATO is planning to wage more wars next year. They profit by selling the very weapons they produce. They live off war. They generate profit from the destruction of other nations and the deaths of people.”

He added, “From Yugoslavia, Libya, Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan, we have already learned many lessons. And that lesson is clear: the only way forward is to fight NATO and to resist the weapons themselves.”

He emphasized, “NATO seeks to divide us. It turns neighboring countries and longtime friends into enemies and drives us to fight each other. That is exactly why we gather here—to demand the dismantling of NATO.”

The Gagarin Regiment of Indonesia noted, “In other parts of the Netherlands, people protesting against NATO have been arrested. Just a few days ago, a massive anti-NATO protest took place, and several weeks ago, over 150,000 citizens took to the streets to oppose NATO and Israel’s attacks on Gaza and Iran. The leaders of this country do not seem to share the will of these masses—in fact, they may even be supporting the ongoing genocide in Gaza. But the Dutch people have already shown that the majority do not stand with this.”

They continued, “The survival of national sovereignty and global people’s movements are fundamentally interconnected and mutually essential.”

“We can see this unity of struggle in the Russian army fighting NATO’s proxies in Ukraine, in the resistance of Iran and Palestinian forces in the Middle East against NATO’s agents, and in the fierce resistance shown by Ansarullah and the people of Sana’a in Yemen. All of these struggles are linked.” “So once again, we declare, Disband NATO! NATO out of everywhere!”

Eleonore Koffi, a member of the Communist Party of Great Britain (Marxist–Leninist), emphasized, “Only through unity and determined struggle can we achieve liberation and revolution. The World Anti-Imperialist Platform will fight on that front line.”

As the protest came to a close, all participants raised their voices in unison, chanting “Disband NATO!”, and concluded the event by singing “The Internationale.”
