Pakistan’s Key Power Figure in the Military Visits the US Again in Two Months—Accelerating Cooperation

General Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and considered a key power figure in Pakistan’s military, held talks with US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Caine in Washington, Bloomberg News reported on August 11.

This visit comes less than two months after Munir met with US President Donald Trump.

It has been reported that during the meeting, Munir invited Trump to visit Pakistan.

Munir also attended the retirement ceremony of General Erik Kurilla, head of US Central Command, where he expressed the need for continued cooperation to address shared security challenges with the US.

Analysts suggest that the US, whose relationship with India has recently deteriorated, is strengthening military and diplomatic cooperation with Pakistan—a long-time rival of India.
