Anti-Imperialist Leaders Attend Beijing Ceremony Marking 80th Anniversary of Victory in Chinese People’s War of Resistance and World Anti-Fascist War

BEIJING — Anti-imperialist leaders, including Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin, gathered in Beijing on September 3 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Their presence underscored the continued unity of forces opposing imperialism and militarism, past and present.

The victory in 1945 was not merely a regional triumph but a world-historic event that decisively shaped the destiny of the Chinese people and progressive humanity as a whole. It marked a fundamental turning point, inspiring liberation struggles across colonized nations and accelerating the global movement for independence against imperialist domination. The anniversary highlighted that the defeat of fascism remains a source of strength for all peoples striving today against new forms of aggression and hegemony.

The commemoration began at 9 a.m. with the solemn raising of the flag of the People’s Republic of China, accompanied by an 80-gun salute symbolizing the spirit of victory. Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China and president of the PRC, delivered a keynote address, reaffirming China’s historic role in the anti-fascist struggle and its present commitment to safeguarding sovereignty and peace. He then reviewed a grand military parade showcasing 45 formations of the People’s Liberation Army, demonstrating both the historic legacy and modern strength of China’s armed forces in defense of independence.

The event concluded with the release of doves and thousands of balloons, symbols of peace, over Tiananmen Square. Later, a state reception was held at the Great Hall of the People for international guests of honor. The participation of leaders from countries long targeted by imperialist hostility sent a clear political message: the legacy of the anti-fascist victory continues to inspire today’s struggles for national sovereignty, social justice, and a world free from imperialist war.
