The World Anti-Imperialist Platform (Platform) delegation has successfully concluded its visit series of Latin America. Beginning in Mexico on November 6 and continuing through El Salvador, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia, the delegation visited seven countries over a one-month period until December 7.
The purpose of this Latin America visit series was to reaffirm the conclusions reached at the 9th International Anti-Imperialist Conference, and—given the urgent military aggression being prepared by US imperialism against Venezuela—to organize Defense Brigades and an International Brigade suited to the conditions of each country.
While confirming the organization of the Defense Brigades, the delegation and the organizations it visited agreed in concrete terms that the Defense Brigades’ first project would be the screening of the film “Nicolás.” “Nicolás” is a film depicting the life of President Maduro, who chose to live for the nation and the people.
The delegation began its schedule with a visit to Mexico from November 6 to 11. On the 7th, it held a discussion meeting with about 30 key figures from progressive parties and political organizations—such as the Mexican Communist Party (formerly the Mexican Communist Movement) and the Socialist Chair Antonio Gramsci—as well as leaders from social movements including the Electrical Workers’ Movement, national education organizations, student networks, and human rights centers. Together, they resolved to organize a Defense Brigade for Venezuela appropriate for Mexico’s situation. The parties, political organizations, and groups present reaffirmed the need for concrete practice through the Defense Brigades and the International Brigade.
On the morning of November 10, the delegation met with workers from Mexico City to confirm their commitment to forming a Defense Brigade for Venezuela. The Mexico City municipal workers—who were engaged in a struggle to improve their working conditions against the city administration—shared the urgent situation in Venezuela and responded to the call by declaring, “We will go to Venezuela ourselves.”
In the afternoon of the 10th, the delegation held a meeting with youth and students from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. The students emphasized the importance of solidarity with Venezuela and the broader anti-imperialist struggle, saying, “The organization of the Defense Brigade is truly important. In the current situation, the anti-imperialist struggle is essential.”
Next, from November 11 to 15, the delegation visited El Salvador. The delegation met with several organizations, including the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN), the Rafael Aguiñada Carranza Functional Coordination Committee (CIRAC), and the Federation of Unified Trade Unions of El Salvador (FUSS), to discuss issues related to the ongoing military situation in the Caribbean region and the formation of the Defense Brigade for Venezuela.
Key communist figures from Salvadoran parties and organizations emphasized, “Under the Bukele regime, fascist tendencies have intensified. Fifty percent of workers are working under conditions without proper protection,” and “Please convey to President Maduro that we are fully prepared. El Salvador, Venezuela, and Cuba have helped each other in difficult times; we are brother nations that have faced crises together,” pledging to defend the Bolivarian Revolution and resist US imperialist military aggression together.” They resolved to defend the Bolivarian Revolution and fight together against military aggression by US imperialism.
From November 16 to 20, the delegation visited Argentina. Argentine communist forces condemned the fascist tendencies of the Milei administration and the maneuvers of far-right groups during their meeting with the delegation. They reported that the Milei government, maintaining close diplomatic relations with Netanyahu, has been expanding surveillance and control over political opponents under the pretext of national security.
Far-right groups also took advantage of this situation, attacking the Venezuelan Embassy in Buenos Aires. The communist forces shared their experiences defending the embassy. They reported that after the Milei government took office, economic dependency deepened, monetary sovereignty was entirely surrendered, the currency crisis persisted, and as a result, wealth inequality widened and skyrocketing prices devastated the livelihoods of the people.
In this context, the Argentine communist forces agreed on the necessity of the Defense Brigade for Venezuela. They stated that if Venezuela were to fall at this time, the next target would be the entirety of South America, and they pledged to do their utmost to defend Venezuela. They also acknowledged the political significance of screening “Nicolás” and expressed their intention to hold screenings as soon as possible.
From November 20 to 25, the delegation visited Chile. The Workers’ Party of Chile, which actively expressed its desire to join the Platform, praising the Paris Declaration and its three major goals as the most scientifically appropriate line for the current era, criticized the Communist Party of Greece’s” Imperialist Pyramid theory,” stating that “they are making enormous mistakes at a critical time” and “their Trotskyist-oriented line must be approached with caution.”
They agreed that the most urgent political issue at present is the “Second Caribbean Crisis” caused by US imperialism and fully endorsed the conclusions of the 9th International Anti-Imperialist Conference announced on October 22. They also stated that they are actively struggling within Chile to provide political and military support for Venezuela.
From November 25 to 28, the delegation visited Peru. In Peru, they met with the Peruvian Communist Party and the Peruvian Federation of Civil Construction Workers (FTCCP). The Urban Construction Workers’ Union said that they have been following the activities of the Platform through the Peruvian Communist Party and declared, “We are ready to join the solidarity efforts for Venezuela” and “We are exploring defense brigade initiatives for our Venezuelan brothers.”
The delegation then met with the leadership of the Peruvian Communist Party, including General Secretary Domingo Cabrera Toro, the International Secretary, members of the Political Bureau, and representatives of women and youth. General Secretary Cabrera stated, “we are already prepared, and we have begun organizing the defense brigade. We agree with the political importance of the film ‘Nicolás.’ What is required now is concrete action.”
From November 28 to December 2, the delegation visited Ecuador. They met with the Communist Party of Ecuador, the Bakers’ Union, the Guayas Regional Union, and the Electricity and Retirees’ Union. The General Secretary of the Communist Party of Ecuador said “We agree with the Platform’s assessment of the current situation. We are concerned about the emerging war threats against Latin America and the crisis in the Caribbean.” Furthermore, he stated, “We will stand together through the struggle taking place in Ecuador against imperialism and neoliberalism,” and resolved to work on the formation of the Defense Brigade for Venezuela as well as other political initiatives in Ecuador.
Ecuadorian workers declared, “We must continue fighting for justice and democracy, and we must oppose the illegitimate interference of imperialism in our internal affairs. We must struggle to defend the sovereignty of each nation.” They also resolved, “We will join the anti-imperialist struggle together with the Platform. We support the struggle of the people of the ‘ROK.’ We will fight together with workers across the world.”
Finally, from December 3 to 7, the delegation visited Colombia. They met with the Colombian Communist Party and its women’s section to share the current situation and discuss future actions. The Colombian Communist Party repeatedly emphasized that the Paris Declaration of the Platform is “an excellent declaration.”
They further stressed the necessity of international solidarity with Venezuela, stating, “Colombia has faced difficulties in international solidarity due to the civil war. However, the current global situation calls for international anti-imperialist struggle.”
Women members of the Colombian Communist Party have primarily worked on addressing and preventing gender-based violence within Colombia. They stated, “In international activities, we have participated in the Women’s International Democratic Federation,” and added, “We will closely carry out initiatives with the World Anti-Imperialist Women’s Platform.”
Having successfully completed the Latin American visit series, the delegation plans to continue its efforts to organize the International Brigade and Defense Brigade during its upcoming European visit series.
