On December 14, a delegation from the World Anti-Imperialist Platform (Platform) met with the Communist Party of Belgium in Brussels, Belgium.
The meeting was attended by Vincent Mathieu, Chairman of the Communist Party of Belgium; Jozef Bossuyt, International Secretary; and Yannick Vanonckelen, a member of the Political Bureau, with a female activist also in attendance.
On this day, the delegation and the Communist Party of Belgium analyzed the international situation surrounding Venezuela and discussed solidarity measures and practical projects. They also agreed on the necessity of a joint response to the serious trend of militarization and rearmament taking place across Europe.
The delegation reviewed the achievements of their activities over the past three years while watching a video documenting the work of the Platform, which was formed following the outbreak of the war in Ukraine in February 2022.
A member of the Communist Party of Belgium stated, “The militarization and rearmament of Europe are intensifying. During World War 2, young Belgian men were mobilized and sacrificed, and recently, a young Belgian soldier mobilized for the war in Ukraine was killed.”
They continued, lamenting, “While imperialism provokes world war 3, some opportunist forces are targeting the Platform and engaging in groundless personal attacks. This leads to the division of the international communist movement and ultimately aids imperialism.”
Vincent Mathieu shared the recent struggles of the Communist Party of Belgium and the practical projects of the Platform within Belgium. He mentioned that as the Palestine solidarity struggle continues, the number of subscribers to the Communist Party of Belgium news has increased, and the views for their propaganda party newspaper, produced in French and Dutch, have risen significantly recently.
Yannick Vanonckelen revealed the plan, stating, “A Venezuela solidarity struggle will take place in Brussels on December 16. We will distribute propaganda materials from the Party and the Platform to inform people of the truth about Venezuela.”
The delegation emphasized, “Practice is the criterion of truth. Scientific situational analysis and the establishment of a revolutionary strategy are crucial.” They added, “Following the conclusions of the International Anti-Imperialist Conference in Caracas, the Platform has decided to form a defense brigade to protect Venezuela, and many organizations are currently organizing these defense brigades.”
Furthermore, they stressed, “Responding to the militarization and rearmament of Europe is also urgent. This is manifesting in various trends, such as the decision to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP and attempts to expand conscription and training obligations in countries like Germany. Meanwhile, the decision to dissolve the Communist Party of Poland is extremely dangerous and risks spreading across Europe. This is a process of internal fascistization by the EU (European Union) to move toward war. A strong joint response is necessary.”
