On February 3, the People’s Democracy Party (PDP) held its second party speech rally in front of the US Embassy under the slogan, “Free the Anti-Imperialist People’s Leader Maduro! Down with Imperialism!” Participants vigorously shouted slogans such as “FREE MADURO!”, “¡MADURO LIBRE!”, “¡No pasarán! (They shall not pass!)”, and “Victoria Siempre! Venceremos! (Always toward victory! We shall overcome!)”
Kim Jang-min, Standing Researcher at the Phoenix Political Economy Research Institute, pointed out, “Donald Trump abducted President Nicolás Maduro claiming he was a drug trafficker, but now he has stopped mentioning drugs and is only plundering Venezuela’s oil. Although he blustered about launching a massive second invasion if Venezuela would not comply, a resolution was passed in Congress—with even Republican senators from Trump’s own party joining in—to prevent an invasion of Venezuela. In response, Trump is now talking about sending troops to Iran to “protect” Iranian protesters. He demands that Iran abandon its nuclear weapons or face bombings. However, neighboring countries, even Israel, oppose an attack on Iran.”
He further criticized the situation in Greenland, saying, “What about Greenland? After all that blustering, all he is bragging about is that ‘the US military bases in Greenland have attained the status of US territory.’ However, according to the agreement signed between the US and Denmark immediately after World War 2, the US already held extraterritorial status for those bases, equivalent to being US territory. He is merely claiming to have reconfirmed what was already possessed.”
The researcher continued, “The reason Trump is acting so frantically now is that he was defeated by the Democratic Party in the recent (special) elections, prices are rising due to tariff negotiations, and two people were shot dead by law enforcement during the crackdown on illegal immigrants. Even former Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama have called on the US people to rise up. Trump is trying to divert attention outward because he is in such a crisis.”
The Chairperson of the Gyeonggi Provincial Committee of the PDP emphasized, “Imperialist US has illegally abducted and imprisoned President Nicolás Maduro, the leader of the people. However, the Venezuelan people are demonstrating to the world every day that Maduro is their only president and leader, and that the Bolivarian Revolution continues to advance unwaveringly. The cry for Maduro’s release has become a raging wildfire; US flags are burning in anti-US and anti-imperialist protests even within imperialist nations, calling the people of the world to the anti-imperialist front.”
The Chairperson continued, “Following the acts of piracy and kidnapping against Venezuela, designating Cuba as a threat to the US proves that imperialist aggression and plunder will instantly expand across all of Latin America. The Latin American people are maintaining the highest vigilance and responding strongly. As the US imperialism recently deployed an aircraft carrier strike group and other aggressive forces to Iran, re-igniting the conflict in the Middle East, the possibility of war around Taiwan in East Asia is also heightening. And the world has reached the brink of the full-scale outbreak of World War 3.”
Furthermore, the Chairperson declared, “The political structure of East Asia is such that if a ‘war in Taiwan’ breaks out, a ‘war in Korea’ is destined to erupt simultaneously. Since Venezuela and the ‘Republic of Korea’ are never separate in the face of imperialist ambitions, the struggle for ‘Maduro’s Release’ and to ‘Overthrow Imperialism’ serves as a crucial force in deterring the onset of World War 3. The PDP will take the lead in strengthening the anti-imperialist front alongside our people and all of humanity through these struggles, ultimately overthrowing imperialism and hastening the day of independence and peace.”
Finally, calling for the release of President Maduro, the participants sang “Song of Comrades.”
