On March 16th, China reaffirmed its firm support for the Cuban government in the face of the tightening of the blockade imposed by the United States and condemned the coercive measures that violate the sovereignty and the right to survival of the Cuban people.
During a press conference held in Havana, China’s ambassador to Cuba, Hua Xin, opposed external pressure and coercion on the island, and denounced the illegal restrictions imposed by the United States on Cuba for more than 60 years, which have caused immense suffering to the Cuban people.
He also stressed that the recent blockade on oil imports seriously violates the Cuban people’s right to survival and development. “China firmly opposes this and strongly condemns it,” the diplomat stated.
“China has always maintained that Latin America and the Caribbean are one large family of independent sovereign nations,” he stated. He added that they are by no means the backyard of any other country.
He criticized the United States for clinging to the outdated Monroe Doctrine and overgeneralizing national security.
