Le Partisan Québécois marks the 55th anniversary of the assassination of François Mario Bachand

Le Partisan Québécois marks the 55th anniversary of the assassination of François Mario Bachand, a Quebec Marxist-Leninist activist who was a member of the FLQ, the CIS, and the FLP, among other organizations.

François Mario Bachand played a significant role in Quebec’s political and social life: he participated in the armed struggle, was a union activist involved in the 7-Up strike, and organized the McGill Français demonstration, one of the largest in Quebec’s history, among other activities.

François Mario Bachand left behind theoretical writings (which we have republished) collected in the posthumously published book “Trois Textes.” We encourage the younger generations of independence and socialist activists to read them and draw relevant lessons from them.

Bachand was one of those who, alongside his FLQ comrades, carried forward the struggle of the Patriotes of 1837–1838 into the era of the proletarian revolution in the 20th century.

His assassination in France in 1971 remains unsolved to this day, and we will continue to demand justice until it is served!
