In response to the violent arrests carried out by Kenyan authorities against delegates of the World Anti-imperialist Platform, members of the Communist Party Marxist Kenya (CPMK), and the PASAI international delegation during a peaceful demonstration opposing the Africa-France Summit in Nairobi, a press conference demanding their release and condemning the Kenyan regime is continuing in the ‘Republic of Korea’ (South Korea), led by the People’s Democracy Party (PDP).
A PDP member announced the statement on behalf of the Platform.
[Statement of the World Anti-imperialist Platform]
Release the Delegation of the World Anti-imperialist Platform! Down with Imperialism and Fascism!
The Kenyan Ruto fascist authorities have refused to release international activists for more than 12 hours since their illegal and violent detention. On May 12, in Nairobi, Kenya, members of the World Anti-imperialist Platform, the Communist Party Marxist Kenya (CPMK), and the PASAI international delegation were violently arrested while holding a legal and peaceful rally to expose and denounce the aggressive and deceptive nature of the “Africa-France Summit” (Africa Forward). Kenyan soldiers and police blocked the peaceful march with armored vehicles, fired tear gas, and committed acts of violence, such as grabbing our comrades by their collars and dragging them away. The vicious fascist nature of the Ruto authorities—who massacred dozens of protesters against the 2024 Finance Bill with live ammunition and have repeatedly attempted to assassinate Comrade Booker Omole, General Secretary of the CPMK—has once again been revealed in broad daylight.
The delegation of the World Anti-imperialist Platform is fighting undauntedly in this arena of fascist suppression and lawless zone of human rights violations. The Kenyan fascist police are displaying the height of barbarism by refusing to provide any meals or basic necessities and by obstructing the legitimate exercise of the right to legal assistance. The very act of soldiers storming a peaceful rally for which a notice had already been filed and conducting illegal arrests is nothing less than political terrorism. They violated the Kenyan Constitution by failing to issue warrants or notify the reason for arrest, and they rampantly trampled upon international law by illegally arresting a large number of foreign nationals. Now, they are even attempting to put them on trial without any justification. In the face of the Ruto regime’s destruction of the rule of law and human rights, as well as its barbarism and injustice, the members of the World Anti-Imperialist Platform delegation are practically demonstrating their justice and militant spirit through determined resistance, including a silent hunger strike.
Behind the Ruto fascist authorities stand imperialist aggressor forces.. The “Africa Forward Summit” is a neo-colonial collusion between the Ruto regime and French imperialism, which seeks to restore its declining hegemony in Africa by expanding its influence into East Africa after being expelled from the three anti-imperialist Sahel states. Under the guise of “ESG Supply Chains” and “Joint Investment,” the Ruto regime is deceiving the Kenyan people while handing over blessed natural resources entirely to foreign powers and plunging the masses into a swamp of debt. The fact that digital surveillance technology, introduced in the name of “cooperation” with France, is employed to monitor and suppress the communist party and progressive activists clearly demonstrates the reactionary nature of the “Africa Forward Summit”. The struggle against the “Africa Forward Summit” fully corresponds to the anti-imperialist and independent desires among the people of Kenya, Africa, and the entire world.
Imperialist forces have reduced Kenya into a strategic bridgehead and a battleground for competing interests. US imperialism has militarily designated Kenya as a Major Non-NATO Ally and economically seeks to connect it with the “Lobito Corridor” to exclusively extract critical minerals. British imperialist forces are occupying parts of Kenyan territory and committing various acts of illegal and violent atrocities. French imperialism attempts to bind African resources under Western standards through a “Clean Mineral” certification system. Meanwhile, the fact that the fascist puppet of imperialism serves as a war puppet for World War 3 clearly demonstrates how fatal the Ruto regime is to the Kenyan people. Despite the fascist authorities’ illegal arrests and violent atrocities, our will to struggle for independence and justice will never be broken. We will fight alongside the Kenyan people struggling against imperialism and its fascist puppets. We will surely win and advance toward the liberation of the people.
