Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on the 21st that the country should bring the months-long war to an end.
According to AFP and Reuters, Pezeshkian said, “It is better to end the war now, while we have strength and dignity.”
Pezeshkian claimed that Iran currently has the upper hand against the United States, accusing Washington of violating international rules by attacking schools, hospitals and infrastructure.
He also claimed that “the world is recognizing our victory,” arguing that the United States is facing international condemnation.
Pezeshkian’s remarks came shortly after the United States announced plans to impose new economic pressure on Iran.
On the 20th, U.S. President Donald Trump declared an “economic D-Day” for Iran, signaling the start of intensified economic pressure. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent subsequently said in an interview that Washington would impose “the strongest economic sanctions ever.”
Iran’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the new U.S. sanctions policy as “economic terrorism” and a “crime against humanity.” It also argued that those who implement or encourage the sanctions should face trial and punishment for their actions.
