Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, on May 24, 2023 local time. Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People‘s Republic of China reported that Xi said “It is the aspiration of the people and the trend of the times to consolidate and develop China-Russia relations.”
Mishustin’s visit to China was pre-arranged, but coincidentally coincided with the closing of the G7 Summit, which is attracting a lot of attention.
This day, Xi stated that during his successful state visit to Russia in March, he and Putin drew a blueprint for the future development of China-Russia relations and cooperation in various fields.
Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin conveyed to Xi the best greetings on behalf of President of Russia Vladimir Putin and replied “Your state visit to the Russian Federation was very successful and opened a new path for developing comprehensive strategic cooperation between Russia and China.”
Also he said that “I would like to reaffirm our shared commitment to strengthening the multipolar world order based on the rule of international law.”
On May 21 local time, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin visited China for two nights and three days, accompanied by three Deputy Prime Minister, five ministers and hundreds of busines leaders, shortly after the G7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan.
He took part in the Russian-Chinese Business Forum in Shanghai on 23 May and put big emphasis on economic cooperation with China, stating “I am confident that this year we will reach $200 billion.”
Also he met with Chinese Premier Li Qiang before state visit with Xi and singed bilateral agreements on economic cooperation such as raising the level of investment cooperation the import and export of agricultural products. He mentioned “Relations between Russia and China have grown to an unprecedented level.” and “It is related with the increased turbulence on the international stage and the illegal sanctions pressure on the part of the collective West.”
