The League of Communist Youth of Yugoslavia (SKOJ), together with the Palestinian diaspora in Serbia, organized a „Rally in Support of the People of Palestine“, as part of the „International Day of Solidarity Action with the Residents of Gaza and Palestinian Prisoners in Israel“. The rally was held at the Summer Stage in Zemun on Saturday, 3rd of August 2024.
In his speech at the rally, the first secretary of SKOJ, Miloš Karavezić, emphasized that civilians—women and children—are the primary victims of Zionist crimes. Following him, the Ambassador of the State of Palestine in Serbia, Mohamed Al Namura, addressed the crowd, noting that the crimes against the Palestinian people have been ongoing since 1948. and have reached their most horrific form with the latest Zionist invasion of Gaza. He stressed that Netanyahu and the Zionist leadership must be held accountable before the International Court of Justice for their war crimes. Then Aleksandar Đenić, a member of the Zemun Municipal Assembly and the executive secretary of the NKPJ, spoke, stating that the question of Palestine is a humanitarian one and that only those without a heart do not stand with the people of Palestine today. Abdul Kader Sabah, the president of the General Union of Palestinian Students in Serbia, whose 54 family members were killed by Zionist aggression, also spoke, and the last speaker was Vukašin Žunić, the secretary of the Student Front, who emphasized that students from Serbia stand in solidarity with their Palestinian colleagues and that the Student’s Front has launched an initiative at the Faculty of Philosophy, for this institution to condemn the genocide in Gaza.
Through this International Action of Solidarity with the People of Palestine, NKPJ, SKOJ, and the Palestinian diaspora marked 300 days since the beginning of the invasion and genocide that Israel is carrying out against the residents of the Gaza Strip. Participants in the rally chanted slogans such as “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free”, “Free Palestine” and “Kosovo is Serbia – Palestine is a state.” So far, more than 39.000 people have been massacred by the Zionists, who regularly target residential buildings, schools, hospitals, mosques, and churches, with over half of the victims being women and children. The residents of the occupied West Bank are also not spared from the daily torture by Israeli authorities and settlers, with over 9,000 innocent people, including 300 women and 635 minors, currently imprisoned in Israeli jails.
Benjamin Netanyahu’s Zionist regime, in addition to committing genocide against Palestinians, seeks to drag the entire Middle East into a military conflict. The Israeli army provokes and incites clashes daily with Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, and Iran. In this way, Israel tries to provoke a broader war and drag its imperialist allies, led by the United States, into it.
The so-called “international community,” that is, the countries belonging to the imperialist bloc, persistently refuse to condemn the crimes of Israel, which is one of their satellites. The same regimes that support the shameful UN Resolution on the (false) genocide in Srebrenica refuse to condemn the real genocide that is taking place in Gaza today.
The citizens of Zemun, a sister municipality with Palestinian Ramallah, have shown solidarity with Palestine and raised their voices against the crimes committed by Israel and its backers, led by the USA. The Serbian and Palestinian peoples maintain decades-long friendship and jointly resist imperialism, sending a strong message from Zemun against the genocide of the people of Gaza!
