Last Sep. 12, delegation of the World Anti-imperialist Platform (Platform) and the People’s Democracy Party (PDP) attended the event and symposium in Bafatá, Guinea-Bissau which celebrate 100th anniversary of Amílcar Cabral’s birth.
The African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC), which hosted the symposium, was founded in 1945 by Amílcar Cabral and the militant fighters for the independence of Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde. Today it is the first political party in Bissau’s parliament.
At the symposium, including the Platform and the PDP, the delegations of West Africa Peoples Organisations (WAPO), All-African People’s Revolutionary Party (AAPRP), Democratic Party of Guinea (PDG) and Socialist Movement of Ghana participated.
At the beginning, the vice president of PAIGC, Califa Seide made remark. Referring to the General Assembly of the women’s alliance of the PAIGC, UDEMU (Union of Democratic Women of Guinea-Bissau) that took place the previous day, he said “In our streets, there are always people with conscience and wisdom. Our women are always in our streets. They are great.”
He recalled his meeting with Amílcar Cabral, saying, “When I first met him, he showed me his integrity, his honesty and his ability to discern lies.”
Next, women who have been active in the spirit of Cabral spoke. From women who worked with Cabral during Portuguese colonization to young women who recently joined her organization, Amílcar Cabral African Youth, discussed about the thought of Cabral, commemorating Cabral.
International delegates then made remarks. The delegation from PDG thanked the PAIGC for its hospitality, saying, “We celebrate the centenary of the birth of a great defender of the cause of Africa, a great fighter for the dignity of the African people, in his hometown of Bafatá”
“He is a leader who transcends Guinea-Bissau and is a leader not only for Guinea-Bissau but for the whole world,” he said, calling for more activities in Guinea to commemorate Amílcar Cabral’s achievements.
The member of the central committee of AAPRP, Nii Ardey Atoo, started his remark, celebrating “All our members were given membership cards of the PAIGC and are proud members,” “We congratulate the continuers of Amílcar Cabral Thought; the secure ombatant reserve of the PAIGC; Amílcar Cabral African Youth (JAAC) for 50 years of struggle and victories!”
He stressed the thought of Cabral, saying “For us, Amílcar Cabral Thought in practice means learn, learn, learn. Learn form books; learn from out people; learn from experiences of others; always learn and apply in practice! For us, Amílcar Cabral Thought in practice means organization of our people. All the people based upon our culture.”
“The All-African People’s Revolutionary Party was founded by Osageyfo Kwame Nkrumah, Ahmed Sekou Toure, Amílcar Cabral and other honest revolutionaries to coordinate the political-ideological military struggle of the African Revolution. Its historic task if to have coordination.” he added, emphasizing the importance of unity.
The Platform’s speech―African anti-imperialist and liberation forces, inheriting the spirit of Amílcar Cabral, will certainly win―received cheers from the participants.
The remark focused the African people’s struggle in this world situation, saying “The fact that the decisive struggle for realization of the African people’s sovereignty is taking place amid the situation of the Third World War is noteworthy. The storm of World War 3, unleashed by imperialism, is attacking the Western Pacific by way of Eastern Europe and West Asia (Middle East).”
It pointed out the importance of Pan-Africanism, saying “The progressive forces in Africa are in charge of an important part of the struggle for realization of independence for all progressive peoples of the world. In particular, Pan-Africanism transcends “borders” that were forcibly and violently drawn by the imperialist aggressor forces, and consists of fighting spirit to achieve independence and liberation for African people by crushing such divisive schemes.”
It emphasized that “Cabral devotedly struggled for construction of new society, where the people are masters of politics and economy, according to the people-centered ideology—“live among the people, before the people, behind the people”—until his last moment.” and that “Africa’s anti-imperialist and liberation struggle, inheriting the spirit of Cabral, and the world anti-imperialist joint action will certainly win. The new era of global independence and true peace is just around the corner.”

African anti-imperialist and liberation forces, inheriting the spirit of Amílcar Cabral, will certainly win.
African people are wiping out the imperialist forces through their heroic anti-imperialist and liberation struggle. As a result of the anti-imperialist resistance war that has been in full swing since 2020, countries such as Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger are breaking away from imperialist military hegemony by abrogating their military agreements with France and the USA, and forcing imperialist invading forces to withdraw. On January 2024, Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, through the joint statement of Alliance of Sahel States, declared that “the decision to withdraw from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), which imposed inhumane sanctions, is a matter of sovereign decision” and have boldly stood against the imperialist camp’s maneuvers to violate the right of self-determination through ECOWAS. Moreover, they are advancing toward realizing their independence by discussing to establish a Confederation of Sahel States, and signing a mutual defense pact.
The fact that the decisive struggle for realization of the African people’s sovereignty is taking place amid the situation of the Third World War is noteworthy. The storm of World War 3, unleashed by imperialism, is attacking the Western Pacific by way of Eastern Europe and West Asia (Middle East). The USA and NATO member countries gradually allowed their domestically-made weapons, sent to Ukraine, to be used to strike the Russian mainland starting in late May 2024. In June, Ukrainian neo-Nazi forces attacked Sevastopol using US weapons and military intelligence provided by the US military, and threatened to destroy the nuclear power plants in Zaporizhia and Kursk—actions tantamount to a nuclear attack, provoking Russia to the extreme. Israeli President Netanyahu, shortly after his visit to the U.S. in late July, bombed Beirut, Lebanon, and Tehran, Iran, carrying out targeted assassinations of a Hezbollah military commander and the head of Hamas’s political bureau. Israel is deliberately seeking to ignite a full-scale war with Lebanon and provoke Iran’s entry into the conflict, aiming to explosively escalate the war in West Asia.
When a Western Pacific war breaks out, Third World War is going to be in full swing. Western pacific region includes DPRK, China, Russia which are the leading force of anti-imperialist camp. Especially, China is the biggest obstacle to achieve the US Pacific “maritime internalization strategy.” To bring the Western Pacific War, the US and NATO gathered the AP4 (Asia-Pacific Partners: Japan, the “Republic of Korea (ROK)”, Australia, and New Zealand) at the Madrid Summit in 2022. Following the Vilnius Summit in 2023, they completed the ‘Pacificization of NATO’ at the Washington Summit in July 2024. From June to August 2024, the aggressive US imperialist forces, which have organized aggressive military alliances such as S-Quad of the US-Japan-Australia-Philippines, AUKUS of the US-UK-Australia and the ‘Asian version of NATO’ of the US-Japan-the “ROK”, mobilized the NATO countries and pro-US warmongering nations in the Western Pacific region and conducted the multinational joint military exercises including “RIMPAC,” “Pitch Black,” “Pacific Skies”, and “Pacific Dragon”, targeting DPRK, China and Russia.
The storm troops of the Western Pacific War are Japanese militarist forces. Just as the imperialist camp has used Ukraine and Israel as proxies in the battles of Eastern Europe and Western Asia, it is similarly manipulating Japanese militarist forces in the Western Pacific theater. In April 2024, the US-Japan summit affirms to create the Joint Operations Command of Japan’s Ground, Maritime, and Air Self-Defense Forces. At the US-Japan foreign and defense ministers’ talks in July, it formalized that the operational command authority of US Forces Japan (USFJ) will be transferred from US Indo-Pacific Command to the newly established USFJ joint force headquarters. Also, the close ties between joint force headquarters of USFJ and Joint Operations Command of Japan’s Ground, Maritime, and Air Self-Defense Forces were officially affirmed. This is, in fact, tantamount to the US aggressive imperialist forces handing over the operational command authority of the Western Pacific War to USFJ joint force headquarters, which commands a force of 55,0000 personnel.
War in the “ROK” is the spark for the Western Pacific War. The US aggressive imperialist forces have aligned pro-US warmongering forces in the “ROK” and Philippines under Japanese militarist forces, forming the battle lines for the Western Pacific War. Especially, the pro-US and warmongering Yoon Suk-yeol government in the “ROK”, is the war puppet of the US and the group of the pro-Japan traitors. The US-Japan-the “ROK” fully solidified the “Northeast Asian version of NATO” through the “Freedom Edge”, a multi-domain joint military exercises in June. During the defense ministers’ meeting in July, they agreed to regularly and systematically conduct multi-domain trilateral exercises and hold high-level military meetings. Meanwhile, during the third Nuclear Consultative Group meeting in June, the US and “ROK” authorities effectively decided on the integration of US nuclear forces with the “ROK” conventional forces. At the end of July they conducted a joint military exercise integrating US nuclear forces and the “ROK” conventional forces. On August 19, they launched a large-scale joint military exercises, “Ulchi Freedom Shield”, across multiple domains, provoking the war in the “ROK.”
As we know, Third World War is a war between the anti-imperialist camp and the imperialist camp. The imperialist camp initiated Third World War by manipulating the “New Cold War” framework in an attempt to escape from their overall crisis. The justification for the imperialist war has faded due to the logical contradiction between the anti-Russia and pro-Israel propaganda. Moreover, the political and economic crisis within the imperialist camp, led by the US, is deepening further. However the anti-imperialist camp upholds the just cause of anti-fascism, liberation, and reunification, which even the imperialist camp cannot deny. In terms of capability, the strongest nuclear and missile powers—DPRK, China, and Russia—are leading forces in the anti-imperialist camp. Additionally, the “axis of resistance,” which includes anti-imperialist and anti-Zionist armed struggle forces such as Iran, along with the 2 billion Muslim population and peoples in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, has formed an anti-imperialist front and united. The resistance war in the Sahel region is crucial for strengthening the anti-imperialist camp.
The strategic superiority of the anti-imperialist camp allows us to predict the outcome of this war. The anti-imperialist forces face a more critical situation as they engage directly and close to their own territory, confronting the imperialist camp’s proxy warfare, expeditionary warfare, regional conflicts, and non-nuclear hybrid warfare. Even if the US imperialist aggressors try to wage war within the limited scope of the Western Pacific, the DPRK, China, and Russia have the capacity to escalate the conflict to a “Second Pacific War” by attacking Hawaii and potentially the US mainland. Meanwhile, even if the DPRK, China, and Russia use tactical nuclear weapons, the US will not have justification for direct nuclear retaliation unless they are attacked on the US mainland. If the US uses nuclear weapons against the DPRK, China, or Russia, these countries—armed with a diverse array of tactical and strategic nuclear weapons—could retaliate by targeting the US mainland. In the worst-case scenario, this could lead to Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD). Given the substantial losses they would incur, the US imperialist aggressors are unlikely to resort to using nuclear weapons.
The attempt to manipulate a “New Cold War” through the Third World War reflects the weaknesses of imperialism. After the Second World War, as imperialist forces were weakened by the spread of socialism and the emergence of national liberation states, they manipulated the “Cold War” to evade their crisis. Since the mid-20th century, internal factors such as revisionism of USSR and the split between the USSR and China weakened the socialist camp. In contrast, today’s military and political power, along with strategic and tactical cooperation among the DPRK, China, and Russia, are stronger than ever before.
If the imperialist camp, who is being repelled in the Ukraine War and is being on the defensive in the West Asian War, initiates the Western Pacific War to escalate Third World War into a full-scale war, Pacific will be a graveyard of imperialism.
The reality of the “Republic of Korea (ROK)” and the reality of African people are not essentially different. The society of “ROK” is subordinated and deformed, that is, a colonial and semi-capitalist society. In August of 1945, we were liberated from Japanese imperialism, but in September, the US military occupied southern part of the Korean Peninsula. They made the people’s committee, a people’s self-governing body, illegal, and divided the Korean Peninsula. Imperialist US has been dominating, exploiting, and plundering our people until now, by manipulating pro-US proxy regime, and fostering comprador capitalists. The Yoon Suk-yeol administration, who survives by being backed by the US, a “prosecutorial fascist” dictatorship which succeeded military fascist dictatorship, is repressing national independence forces and democratic movement forces, while forming a faction in the military and politics, and preparing “Wartime Martial Law.” Yoon Suk-yeol’s daring repression of the People’s Democracy Party, which is the only workers’ party in the “ROK,” indicates that he has been on the “Wartime Martial Law” trail and focused on clearing up the rear before initiating the war in “ROK”.
The progressive forces in Africa are in charge of an important part of the struggle for realization of independence for all progressive peoples of the world. In particular, Pan-Africanism transcends “borders” that were forcibly and violently drawn by the imperialist aggressor forces, and consists of fighting spirit to achieve independence and liberation for African people by crushing such divisive schemes.
Pan-Africanism, which is expanding and strengthening into the movement that emphasizes political integrity, economic cooperation, and cultural solidarity between African countries thereafter, manifests how important an ideological weapon is, as a banner of unity in the anti-imperialist struggle for independence.
Amílcar Lopes Cabral, who made immortal achievements, is living forever in our hearts. Cabral wisely guided African people to liquidate barbaric colonial rule and to rise up in a national liberation revolution. He also led the liberation struggles of Guinea-Bissau and Cabo Verde, against Portuguese colonial rule. In the process of building a new society, he eradicated the remnants of colonialism while emphasizing education to make people free from illiteracy, ignorance, and fear, thus, enhanced their pride as Africans. Politically, he suggested establishment of a people’s congress for independence of African countries, and he struggled for practical realization of Pan-Africanism. Cabral, who aimed for socialism, devotedly struggled for construction of new society, where the people are masters of politics and economy, according to the people-centered ideology—“live among the people, before the people, behind the people”—until his last moment.
The contributions of PAIGC, as a general staff of the national liberation and the construction of new society, is enormous. PAIGC developed armed struggles against the oppression of the Portuguese Empire, and mobilized all the people into all-national uprising for national liberation. In the process of building a new society, they established schools in liberated regions, developed education system, and raised the level of people’s consciousness, thus, strengthened the resistance against imperialism politically, economically and culturally.
Anti-imperialism for independence is a common banner for world humanity, and a goal that must be realized. The World Anti-imperialist Platform, formed by revolutionary parties from around the world in October of 2022, has set the strengthening of the anti-imperialist struggle, the strengthening of the ideological struggle, and the strengthening of the communist movement as three major goals, and has been working diligently to achieve these. Specifically, the Platform has held international conferences in Belgrade in December of 2022, in Caracas in March of 2023, in Seoul in May, in Athens in November, in Gwangju in May of 2024, in Washington in July, and has organized popular protests, demonstrations and events including world anti-imperialist joint struggles. Now Platform is planning a mass event in Africa in this October.
In particular, when the Washington meeting in this July, the Platform overcame all kinds of trials and difficulties, including US imperialists’ refusal to enter the country, successfully held the international conference, rally and march in Washington, and bravely carried out the struggle against the NATO summit. Amidst the great upheaval period of Third World War, it is justice and necessity for progressive humanity to unite and fight. Africa’s anti-imperialist and liberation struggle, inheriting the spirit of Cabral, and the world anti-imperialist joint action will certainly win. The new era of global independence and true peace is just around the corner.

Os povos africanos estão a aniquilar as forças imperialistas através da sua heróica luta anti-imperialista e de libertação. Em agosto de 1945, fomos libertados do imperialismo japonês, mas em setembro, o exército americano ocupou a parte sul da península coreana. Tornaram ilegal o Comité Popular, um órgão de autogoverno do povo, e dividiram a Península da Coreia. O imperialismo norte-americano tem dominado, explorado e saqueado o nosso povo até à data, manipulando um regime por procuração pró-EUA e fomentando capitais compradores. A administração de Yoon Suk-yeol, que sobrevive graças ao apoio dos EUA, uma ditadura “fascista de acusação” que sucedeu à ditadura fascista militar, está a reprimir as forças de independência nacional e as forças do movimento democrático, ao mesmo tempo que forma a fação nas forças armadas e na política e prepara a “Lei Marcial em tempo de guerra”. A ousada repressão de Yoon Suk-yeol contra o Partido da Democracia Popular, que é o único partido dos trabalhadores na “ROK”, indica que ele esteve na pista da “Lei Marcial de Guerra” e concentrou-se em limpar a retaguarda antes de iniciar a guerra na “ROK”.
As forças progressistas em África são responsáveis por uma parte importante da luta pela realização da independência dos povos progressistas do mundo. Em particular, o pan-africanismo transcende as “fronteiras” que foram traçadas à força e violentamente pelas forças agressoras imperialistas, e consiste no espírito de luta para alcançar a independência e a libertação dos povos africanos, esmagando os esquemas astutos de divisão.
Com a criação da Organização da Unidade Africana (OUA) em 1963, o pan-africanismo tornou-se uma ação política oficial. O processo de expansão e fortalecimento do movimento que enfatiza a integridade política, a cooperação económica e a solidariedade cultural entre os países africanos desde então, manifesta a importância de uma arma ideológica, como bandeira de unidade na luta anti-imperialista pela independência.
Amílcar Lopes Cabral, que realizou feitos imortais, vive para sempre nos nossos corações. Cabral guiou sabiamente os povos africanos a liquidarem o bárbaro domínio colonial e a erguerem-se em revolução de libertação nacional. Liderou também as lutas de libertação da Guiné-Bissau e de Cabo Verde, contra o domínio colonial português. No processo de construção de uma nova sociedade, erradicou os velhos vestígios do colonialismo, dando ênfase à educação para libertar o povo do analfabetismo, da ignorância e do medo, reforçando assim o orgulho de ser africano. Politicamente, sugeriu a criação de um congresso popular para a independência dos países africanos e lutou pela realização prática do pan-africanismo. Cabral, que almejava o socialismo, lutou devotadamente pela construção de uma nova sociedade, onde o povo é o senhor da política e da economia, de acordo com a ideologia centrada no povo – “viver entre o povo, antes do povo, atrás do povo” – até ao seu último momento.
O contributo do PAIGC, como estado-maior da libertação nacional e da construção da sociedade nova, é enorme. O PAIGC desenvolveu a luta armada contra a opressão do Império Português e mobilizou todo o povo para o levantamento nacional pela libertação nacional. No processo de construção de uma nova sociedade, criaram escolas nas regiões libertadas, desenvolveram o sistema de ensino, elevaram o nível de consciência do povo e, assim, fortaleceram a resistência contra o imperialismo nos planos político, económico e cultural.
O anti-imperialismo pela independência é uma bandeira comum para a humanidade mundial e um objetivo que deve ser realizado. A Plataforma Mundial Anti-imperialista, formada por partidos revolucionários de todo o mundo em outubro de 2022, estabeleceu como três grandes objectivos o reforço da luta anti-imperialista, o reforço da luta ideológica e o reforço do movimento comunista, e tem trabalhado diligentemente para os alcançar. Especificamente, a Plataforma realizou conferências internacionais em Belgrado, em dezembro de 2022, em Caracas, em março de 2023, em Seul, em maio, em Atenas, em novembro, em Gwangju, em maio de 2024, em Washington, em julho, e organizou protestos populares, manifestações e eventos, incluindo lutas mundiais conjuntas anti-imperialistas. Agora, a Plataforma está a planear um evento de massas em África, em outubro próximo.
Em particular, na reunião de Washington, em julho, a Plataforma superou todo o tipo de provações e dificuldades, incluindo a recusa dos imperialistas norte-americanos de entrar no país, realizou com êxito a conferência internacional, o comício e a marcha em Washington e levou a cabo vigorosamente a luta contra a cimeira da NATO. No meio do grande período de convulsão da Terceira Guerra Mundial, é justo e necessário que a humanidade progressista se una e lute. A luta anti-imperialista e de libertação de África, herdando o espírito de Cabral, e a ação conjunta anti-imperialista mundial vencerão certamente. A nova era da independência mundial e da verdadeira paz está mesmo ao virar da esquina.
