The American Communist Party stands in solidarity with the People’s Democracy Party (PDP) of South Korea against the fascist crackdown carried out by the U.S.-backed puppet regime of Yoon Suk-yeol.
On August 30, 2024, we were horrified to learn of the brutal raids carried out by Seoul’s metropolitan police against the PDP’s offices and private residences of comrades, accusing them of breaching the National Security Act. The police actions show the ongoing repression of all democratic and progressive forces within South Korea.
It is clear that President Yoon Suk-yeol’s goals are to continue the war drive against the DPRK at the urging of the United States. The Yoon Suk-yeol regime can be aptly characterized as fascistic and militaristic, dangerously escalating tensions on the Korean peninsula while crushing all dissent and “anti-imperialist” forces at home.
We American communists have not forget the crimes of our government in Korea over the decades. We remember the barbarities on Jeju island, the horrific crimes during the Korean War, and the repression of the Gwangju Uprising in 1980. Through all of this history, the United States has propped up military dictators and authoritarian rulers who have stifled all dissent while simultaneously lauding the “openness” and “vibrant democracy” in South Korea.
These lies can no longer conceal the truth. The South Korean government is nothing more than a puppet regime of the United States whose only reason for existing is to be a colony of the imperialists who seek to destroy the DPRK. To achieve their aims, that must crush all domestic calls for peace, anti-imperialism, and reunification.
The persecution of the PDP will not stop the locomotive of revolution. The Korean people yearn for their sovereignty, dignity, and reunification. Japan, the United States, and their allies committed barbaric crimes against the Korean people that are still ongoing. We condemn these crimes and stand with our comrades in the PDP against this fascist regime.
The United States and its allies are leading the world towards World War Three. The imperialists, at war already in Ukraine, Palestine, and Lebanon, seek to spread this destruction to
East Asia. With calls to expand NATO to the Pacific, we must be vigilant to stand against any provocation and escalation that seeks to once again plunge the Korean people into war.
We call for an immediate end to the repression against the PDP, for a release of all imprisoned PDP comrades, and for the repeal of the National Security Act.
