On the 27th of September, a festival of the Spanish Communist Party (PCE), was held in Rivas, a city outside of Madrid, Spain. The festival was held from 27 to 29 September.
On the 28th and 29th, the Unión Proletaria (UP), the World Anti-imperialist Platform (the Platform), and the People’s Democracy Party (PDP) organized a propaganda campaign during the festival. The propaganda campaign introduced the Platform, warned of World War III, and called for the unity of the working class.
Various progressive organizations in Spain participated in the festival. The Asociación de Armistad Hispano-Soviética (AAHS), a Soviet-Hispanic Friendship Association, was created in Spain during the 1920s. It was outlawed during the Francoist dictatorship. It disappeared after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991 and was reestablished. The association works to publicize important documents from the Soviet period.
The Amílar Cabral Friendship Association is also located in the center. Amílar Cabral founded Guinea-Bissau’s largest political party, the African Independence Party of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC), and led the armed struggle to liberate Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde from Portuguese colonization.
The Cuban solidarity organization’s stand was well attended with discussions and music. The fact that Cuba, a former Spanish and then American colony, was the first country in Latin America to achieve national liberation and the first socialist government in the Spanish-speaking world holds special significance for Spanish communists.
The PDP informed the people at the festival about the fascist repression on the PDP by Yoon Suk-yeol’s government in “Republic of Korea”. In solidarity with the PDP, participants held the signs in Spanish, “Down with the fascist warmonger Yoon!”, “Stop the repression against the PDP!”, and “Abolish the National Security Law!”.
