Sullo sciopero del 29 marzo alla Piaggio
La piattaforma con la quale la RSU USB Piaggio ha chiamato i lavoratori allo sciopero e’ stata molto importante per la sua riuscita: denuncia del clima di ricatto interno per massimizzare lo sfruttamento dei lavoratori, mancati pagamenti sui premi di risultato, ma soprattutto mancati aumenti salariali, a fronte degli ottimi risultati aziendali, che vedono crescere ogni anno fatturato e utili distribuiti agli azionisti, nonostante una crisi economica che sta sconquassando il sistema capitalistico occidentale.
In questi anni la famiglia Colaninno, manager di Piaggio Spa, legata a doppio filo con sia con il capitale finanziario internazionale, sia con i partiti afferenti al centro sinistra italiano, ha operato con oculatezza sul mercato internazionale, trasformando l’azienda in una delle più importanti multinazionali delle due ruote. Le produzioni in Vietnam con uno stabilimento nella provincia settentrionale di Vin Phuc arrivato a produrre 500mila scooter annui. Il centro di innovazione tecnologica negli USA (Advanced Design Center a Pasadena, California), la società finanziaria IMMSI Spa gestita dal figlio, hanno rafforzato enormemente la posizione di Piaggio sul mercato internazionale. Una posizione acquisita anche grazie ai continui contributi a pioggia da parte dello Stato italiano, oltre che allo sfruttamento intensivo della mano d’opera. Una politica aziendale che anche nel 2022 ha portato il fatturato e gli utili a cifre record, in controtendenza rispetto alla stagnazione, se non alla recessione, di tanti altri settori produttivi, anche grazie all’assoluta mancanza di un piano industriale nazionale, per lasciare mano libera ai cosiddetti “capitani d’industria” come Colaninno, tristemente noto per le spericolate operazioni speculative in Italcase-Bagaglino, Telecom, nell’ex Alitalia e in tante altre aziende decotte.
Questo e’ il contesto nel quale sono maturate le condizioni per la riuscita dello sciopero del 29 marzo: salari da fame, assoluta mancanza di redistribuzione degli utili aziendali, continui ricatti sul posto di lavoro anche in merito alle criticità produttive ed ai rischi infortunistici, precarietà e progressivo svuotamento della fabbrica a causa della mascherata sproporzione tra le tante dimissioni e pensionamenti e le poche assunzioni.
Ma quello che ci interessa evidenziare dello sciopero, insieme alle specifiche rivendicazioni e al contesto, e’ la decisione stessa dei delegati USB di indirlo.
Nei giorni precedenti la mobilitazione e durante gli interventi che ci sono alternati alla assemblea di fronte alla porta ingresso merci lo sciopero e’ stato definito “di avanguardia”, perché convocato in una fase di apatia sociale, resa ancor più “assordante” di fronte alle grandi mobilitazioni operaie e popolari in molti paesi del continente europeo, a partire dalla Francia, ma anche in Germania, Inghilterra, Grecia.
Non siamo stati sorpresi dalla scelta dei delegati USB, che mai hanno perso la loro funzione di stimolo al conflitto, come abbiamo potuto osservare dai primi giorni di sua costituzione, sino alle recenti mobilitazioni, con gli scioperi di aprile e dicembre 2022 e con quello di Genova dello scorso 25 febbraio.
Quello che ha colpito e’ stata invece la risposta operaia che, in una mattina particolarmente fredda, e’ uscita a decine dai cancelli e, bloccando il flusso dei tir merci, ha partecipato attivamente, per due ore consecutive, all’assemblea, seguendo attentamente gli interventi dei delegati USB, dei giovani di Cambiare Rotta, del rappresentante di Potere al Popolo!
Una partecipazione attiva, fatta di interventi, commenti a voce alta, applausi scroscianti.
Non e’ nel nostro stile rappresentare fuori dalle righe iniziative ed eventi, tantomeno assegnare una funzione esorbitante ad uno specifico conflitto. La riuscita dello sciopero e’ stato sicuramente frutto di un lavoro sindacale costante e coerente, di una coscienza operaia sedimentata in anni e anni di conflitto. Una condizione riscontrabile oramai in poche realtà produttive del paese. Ma quello che abbiamo percepito di fronte a quei cancelli riteniamo sia qualcosa di più che non la sola continuità con una storia di lotte.
Alla assemblea hanno partecipato giovani lavoratori e lavoratrici, abitualmente restii a mettersi in gioco a causa della loro condizione di precarietà e di costante ricatto da parte della dirigenza aziendale e dei capi reparto. Abbiamo visto ed ascoltato delegati sindacali di altre sigle, lavoratori migranti, ma soprattutto abbiamo letto negli occhi e nell’atteggiamento di quegli operai la volontà di riprendere il cammino del conflitto, per recuperare salario, sicurezza sul posto di lavoro, emancipazione dalla condizione di ricatto permanente di una azienda che, per macinare gli enormi profitti, spreme i lavoratori con gli straordinari e li minaccia costantemente di esportare le produzioni all’estero.
Nello striscione di Potere al Popolo! c’era scritto “…facciamo come in Francia!”. Il vento delle mobilitazioni d’oltralpe ha sicuramente alimentato la determinazione a scendere in sciopero.
Da Pontedera riteniamo ci giunga un piccolo / grande segnale per tutte le avanguardie operaie che ancora animano il conflitto nel nostro paese. Occorre osare, dando sponda ad un malessere che cova sotto le ceneri del disincanto, dell’individualismo e della disperazione.
Le condizioni materiali per una ripresa della conflittualità operaia e del mondo del lavoro ci sono tutte. La crisi sistemica del capitalismo occidentale sta arrivando ai propri limiti economici, ambientali e bellici. Le ricette proposte dai governi occidentali sono le stesse di questi anni, peggiorate dal clima di guerra e dal costante deterioramento della condizione ambientale. Il pianeta non può più sostenere il geometrico sviluppo delle forze produttive proposto dal modo di produzione capitalistico ai fini del massimo profitto.
Una corsa contro natura, per fermare la quale occorre una, cento, mille micce per accendere la prateria.

On the March 29 strike at Piaggio

In recent years, the Colaninno family, managers of Piaggio Spa, which is inextricably linked with both international financial capital and parties afferent to Italy’s center-left, has operated shrewdly in the international market, transforming the company into one of the most important two-wheeled multinationals. Production in Vietnam with a plant in the northern province of Vin Phuc that has come to produce 500 thousand scooters annually. The technological innovation center in the U.S. (Advanced Design Center in Pasadena, California), the holding company IMMSI Spa managed by his son, have greatly strengthened Piaggio’s position in the international market. A position also acquired thanks to the continuous windfall contributions from the Italian state, as well as the intensive exploitation of labor. A corporate policy that even in 2022 brought turnover and profits to record figures, in contrast to the stagnation, if not the recession, of so many other productive sectors, also thanks to the absolute lack of a national industrial plan, to leave a free hand to the so-called “captains of industry” such as Colaninno, infamously known for his reckless speculative operations in Italcase-Baglino, Telecom, the former Alitalia and so many other decayed companies.
This is the context in which the conditions for the success of the March 29 strike matured: starvation wages, absolute lack of redistribution of company profits, continuous blackmail in the workplace including on critical production issues and accident risks, precariousness and progressive emptying of the factory due to the disguised disproportion between the many resignations and retirements and the few hires.
But what we are interested in highlighting about the strike, along with the specific demands and context, is the very decision of the USB delegates to call it.This is the context in which the conditions for the success of the March 29 strike matured: starvation wages, absolute lack of redistribution of company profits, continuous blackmail in the workplace including on critical production issues and accident risks, precariousness and progressive emptying of the factory due to the disguised disproportion between the many resignations and retirements and the few hires.But what we are interested in highlighting about the strike, along with the specific demands and context, is the very decision of the USB delegates to call it.
In the days leading up to the mobilization and during the speeches we took turns at the assembly in front of the freight entrance gate, the strike was called “vanguard,” because it was called in a phase of social apathy, made all the more “deafening” in the face of the great working-class and popular mobilizations in many countries on the European continent, starting with France, but also in Germany, England, Greece.
We were not surprised by the choice of the USB delegates, who never lost their function of stimulating conflict, as we have been able to observe from the first days of its establishment, up to the recent mobilizations, with the strikes in April and December 2022 and the one in Genoa last February 25.
What was striking, however, was the worker response that, on a particularly cold morning, came out of the gates by the dozens and, blocking the flow of freight trucks, actively participated, for two consecutive hours, in the assembly, attentively following the speeches of the USB delegates, the youth of Cambiare Rotta, the representative of Potere al Popolo!

It is not our style to represent initiatives and events outside the lines, much less to assign an exorbitant function to a specific conflict. The strike’s success was certainly the result of constant and consistent union work, of a workers’ consciousness settled over years and years of conflict. A condition now found in few manufacturing realities in the country. But what we perceived in front of those gates we believe is more than just continuity with a history of struggles.
The assembly was attended by young men and women workers who are usually reluctant to get involved because of their precarious condition and constant blackmail by company management and department heads. We saw and listened to union delegates from other unions, migrant workers, but above all we read in the eyes and attitude of those workers the will to resume the path of conflict, to recover wages, job security, and emancipation from the condition of permanent blackmail by a company that, in order to grind out huge profits, squeezes workers with overtime and constantly threatens them with exporting production abroad.

From Pontedera we believe there comes a small/big signal for all the working-class vanguards that still animate the conflict in our country. There is a need to dare, giving shore to a malaise that smoulders under the ashes of disenchantment, individualism and despair.
The material conditions for a resurgence of workers’ and labor conflict are all there. The systemic crisis of Western capitalism is reaching its economic, environmental and war limits. The recipes proposed by Western governments are the same as those of the past few years, made worse by the climate of war and the constant deterioration of the environmental condition. The planet can no longer sustain the geometric development of productive forces proposed by the capitalist mode of production for the sake of maximum profit.A race against nature, to stop which requires one, a hundred, a thousand fuses to light the prairie.
