Maduro’s Rulling Party Sweeps Election Victory

The United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), led by President Nicolas Maduro, swept Venezuela’s general elections on May 25 (local time).

The PSUV won 82.68% of the vote in the national election for 285 members of the National Assembly, according to AFP.

In the accompanying regional elections, the PSUV won 23 of 24 governorships.

Elvis Amoroso, president of the National Electoral Council (CNE), said at a press conference in Caracas that the process was highly transparent, emphasizing that Venezuela’s electoral system is a global best practice.
