Russia advances over Donetsk to east-central Ukrainian region

Russia said on June 8 that its forces had advanced to the edge of the east-central Ukrainian region of Dnipropetrovsk over the western border of Donetsk.

The Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) said that elements of the Russian 90th Tank Division are reached the border of Dnipropetrovsk. It is one of the Ukraine’s important industrial hubs, especially for steel production, machinery, and military logistics.

This region is also a strategic military point due to its geographical proximity to Russian-occupied Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson. Its capital is Dnipro.

Dmitry Medvedev, the deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, also stated, “Our forces have advanced toward the Dnipropetrovsk region.”

He emphasized, “This is a warning to Ukrainian government” and “Those who do not want to recognize the realities of the war at negotiations, will receive new realities on the ground.”

Meanwhile, the Russian MoD reported that their forces are also expanding occupied territories in areas such as Kharkiv and Sumy, in addition to Donetsk.
