35th Anniversary Ceremonial Academy of NKPJ in Belgrade – Day 1

The World Anti-Imperialist Platform was invited to participate in the 35th anniversary celebration of the NKPJ (New Communist Party of Yugoslavia) on June 28 as a delegation from the Struggle Unity (Türkiye), Revolutionary Unification (Greece), People’s Democracy Party (South Korea).

On this occasion, the event was graced by the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Serbia, Mohammed Al Namur, and congratulations were also sent by the Ambassadors of Venezuela, Cuba and Belarus who, unfortunately, had to be absent for justified reasons. 

The founding ceremony was attended by the former Secretary General, the General Secretary, First Secretary of SKOJ and members of the Party.

The event was began with a speech by Miloš Karavezić, the First Secretary of SKOJ, stressed the importance of strong unity between SKOJ and NKPJ in the fight for a society in which young people will have real prospects in Serbia.

Former Secretary General Batrić Mijović spoke, emphasizing the key role that the party played in the fight against ideological opportunism. He recalled that, thanks to its clear ideological position, the NKPJ managed to survive on the Serbian political scene and maintain its strength.

Dimitrios Patelis, delegate of the Revolutionary Unification, on behalf of the World Anti-Imperialist Platform, emphasised the importance of the NKPJ due to its contribution to the consolidation of the communist and progressive movement. He emphasised that communist, anti-imperialist and progressive organisations around the world draw valuable experience from the struggle of the NKPJ.

Finally, the General Secretary Aleksandar Benjanac, said about current political situations and reminded that the NKPJ, despite the challenges it has faced since its founding and the anti-communist hysteria that has accompanied it since its founding, has not only survived, but has also continued to grow. He emphasized that the party remains consistent with the principles of proletarian internationalism and will continue to fight for the interests of the working people of Serbia.

Next day, The International Anti-Imperialist Colloquium organised by the NKPJ and World Anti-imperialist Platform deepened theory and practice with the theme “The Dangers of NATO Expansion and the Current Tasks of Anti-imperialists”.
