From April 17 to 28, a large-scale combined air drills will take place to enhance the interoperability and the capability for combined operation and wartime missions, at the Gwangju Air Base.
More than 110 U.S.-South Korean air forces and 1,400 soldiers will mobilize in the exercise, according to the South Korean Air Force headquarters on Saturday.
It is expected that the South Korean air force will deploy some 60 warplanes, including F-35A, F-15K and KF-16 fighters and the KC-330 tanker transport aircraft, while the U.S. will mobilize more than 40 aircraft, such as its Air Force’s F-16 fighters, A-10 attack aircraft and the Marine Corps’ F-35B and FA-18 jets.
Many of the forces participating in the drill had already deployed to Gwangju on the 14th and were ready to prepare for the exercise. They will conduct various joint air exercises, including a strike package flight, defensive counter-air and close air support operations.
