The New Communist Party of Yugoslavia (NKPJ) and the League of Communist Youth of Yugoslavia (SKOJ) held an action of solidarity with Venezuela at Kalemegdan in Belgrade, unfurling a banner with the messages “Viva Venezuela,” “Viva Maduro,” “USA Hands Off Venezuela,” and “Solidarity with Venezuela.” Through this action, support was expressed for a peaceful and independent Venezuela, which is exposed to the aggressive pressures of the United States.
In recent weeks, we have witnessed new armed provocations by the U.S. administration, including the deployment of the largest aircraft carrier, the Gerald Ford, along with several warships near the Venezuelan coast, as well as the closure of airspace toward Venezuela. SKOJ assesses that these actions represent a threat to peace in the Caribbean and preparations for a new imperialist aggression.
NKPJ and SKOJ reject the false accusations directed at President Nicolás Maduro, including the claim concerning the alleged “De los Soles” clan. It is hypocritical for the United States to accuse Venezuela of drug trafficking while, at the same time, U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the intention to pardon Orlando Hernández, the former president of Honduras, who was sentenced in the United States to 45 years in prison for arms and narcotics trafficking. These false accusations against Venezuela serve as an excuse for an attempt to subjugate Venezuela and place its vast natural resources under U.S. control.
Despite the threats, the people of Venezuela demonstrate a strong determination to defend their independence. A total of 8.5 million rifles have been distributed throughout the country for the defense of the homeland, showing the level of readiness to protect national sovereignty.
NKPJ and SKOJ consider the U.S. military buildup to be a serious preparation for a new imperialist aggression. We call on all progressive forces in Serbia, as well as state institutions, to clearly condemn these dangerous U.S. provocations. As a people who have survived U.S. aggression, we have a moral obligation to stand with the friendly people of Venezuela.
NKPJ and SKOJ express their full solidarity with the people of Venezuela and their support for President Nicolás Maduro and the progressive government in the struggle for freedom and social justice. We join President Nicolás Maduro’s call for the people of the United States to unite with the people of Venezuela in the fight for peace and against imperialist aggression.
