On December 18, a delegation from the World Anti-Imperialist Platform (Platform) met with the Dutch progressive organization Antifascist Former Resistance Fighters Netherlands (AFVN) in Utrecht, a major city in the central Netherlands.
This meeting took place approximately six months after the Platform held events in The Hague and Amsterdam in June to oppose the NATO Summit in The Hague. The two groups shared their assessments of the current political situation, particularly the situation in Venezuela, and discussed subsequent practical measures.
The delegation conveyed the conclusion of the 9th Caracas International Anti-Imperialist Conference held in October. They also shared information regarding the resolutions to form defense brigades and key practical actions taken by Latin American organizations, which were confirmed during a tour of seven Latin American countries—including Mexico, El Salvador, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia—in November.
AFVN resolved to form a “Peace Brigade” in the Netherlands. Furthermore, as part of the anti-NATO and anti-imperialist struggle, they announced plans to strengthen solidarity efforts to protect Venezuela.
Previously, in November, AFVN successfully screened the first part of the film ‘Nicolas,’ which documents the revolutionary activities of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. They are currently preparing for the screening of the second part.
An AFVN member stated, “Because we conducted an educational session on Venezuela before the screening of the first part, we were able to understand the film on a deeper level. Solidarity with Venezuela is crucial in the current political climate, especially in terms of preventing war.”
They added, expressing their resolve, “Imperialists are escalating the crisis of war and continuing their war propaganda. We must counter this by strengthening our own propaganda. The US seeks to instill economic fear. The consequences of war are miserable, leading not only to economic ruin but also to casualties. The Western system will eventually collapse. We must continue our struggle.”
The delegation shared the process by which the People’s Democracy Party formed the defense brigade “21st Century Che Guevara”—in accordance with the conclusions of the International Anti-Imperialist Conference—through its 2nd National Congress, as well as news of the ‘Nicolas’ screenings in the ‘Republic of Korea.’
Following this, the participants watched a video summarizing the achievements of the st Platform over the three years since its formation and discussed future anti-NATO and anti-imperialist activities in the Netherlands.
