Reşat Güvenilir, who spent decades in prison in Türkiye, was released on April 23 from Tekirdağ No. 2 F-Type Prison.
Güvenilir was welcomed outside the prison by his family and comrades, marking an emotional moment after years of imprisonment. His comrades gathered at the prison gates to greet him and commemorate his release.
He had previously been arrested during the period of the 1980 Turkish coup d’état, commonly referred to as the “September 12 period,” and was released after serving 11 years. Re-arrested in 1996, Güvenilir spent an additional 30 years in prison, bringing his total time behind bars to 41 years.
