“Toward 21st-Century Socialism”: Launch of the New Socialist Network SOVINTERN

A new socialist network, SOVINTERN, has been founded in Moscow, Russia. A Just Russia Party, which spearheaded the formation of SOVINTERN, has brought together over 100 communist and left-wing parties, political organizations, and broad anti-imperialist groups from more than 70 countries worldwide under the slogan “Toward 21st-Century Socialism.”

Founded in 2006, A Justice Russia Party announced that through the SOVINTERN project, it would host a left-wing forum suited to the 21st century, build a new social network based on AI (artificial intelligence), and thereby enable socialists worldwide to communicate freely and form an international community.

A Justice Russia Party supports the Putin government’s “special military operation” of February 2022 and demands an end to the massacre of civilians in the Donetsk region.

International delegations participating in the event laid wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on the morning of April 26 and then visited Red Square. In the afternoon, they participated in the pre-discussion forum for the main event on April 27.

On the morning of the 27th, the founding ceremony of the SOVINTERN was held. The Moscow House of the Unions, where the ceremony took place, is a representative symbol of the Soviet Union; it was transformed into a national political space following the October Socialist Revolution of 1917 and also served as the venue for the funerals of Lenin and Stalin.

President Putin sent a congratulatory message on the founding of the SOVINTERN. President Putin stated, “Russia has consistently sought to expand meaningful dialogue among constructive national political forces from various countries. Together with our partners in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), BRICS, and the Eurasian Economic Union, we are developing practical mechanisms for cooperation across legislative and party platforms. I trust that the creation of this new format for inter party cooperation will further deepen multilateral socio-political ties and help strengthen trust between our countries and peoples.”

At the founding ceremony, former Bolivian President Evo Morales, American Communist Party International Secretary Christopher Helali, Booker Omole, General Secretary of the Communist Party Marxist Kenya; George Galloway, leader of the Workers’ Party of Britain; and Dimitrios Patelis, representing the World Anti-imperialist Platform, delivered speeches.

In the afternoon, four strategic sessions were held. The fourth session, on the theme of “The Situation of World War 3 and the Strengthening of the Anti-Imperialist and Anti-Fascist Front,” was organized by the World Anti-imperialist Platform. Dimitrios Patelis from the Platform, Liu Xu from Deputy Director of the Institute for Russian, East European and Central Asian Studies at the School of International Studies, Renmin University of China, Nikolai Viktorovich Starikov from Member of the Presidium of the Central Council of the Socialist Party “A Just Russia”, and the Struggle Unity (Türkiye) delivered the main presentations.
