US Imperialism Must Immediately Stop Electoral Interference, Election Manipulation, and Sovereignty Violations Against Colombia!

On June 2, US President Trump made a reckless remark expressing full support for the far-right Colombian presidential candidate Abelardo de la Espriella. In response to Trump’s absurd remark that “(Espriella) loves his country and people,” Espriella strongly argued for the “normalization of the alliance,” stating that he would strengthen relations between the USA and Colombia to an “unprecedented level.” At the same time, he also advocated for the normalization of the alliance with Israel, the worst war-criminal and genocidal state. Previously, while 86 US officials entered the observation committee under the pretext of “Colombian electoral transparency,” Moreno, an observer and US Senator, attended a polling station on the day of the first election and congratulated the rise in Espriella’s vote share. President Gustavo Petro of Colombia raised his voice, stating, “When one country interferes in the decisions of another, freedom disappears,” and the progressive and people’s candidate Iván Cepeda also emphasized that foreign forces manipulated the election results. The Colombian pan-ruling camp is also collectively and fiercely criticizing the violation of international regulations and illegal electoral interference

The scheming of the imperialist and fascist forces to block the recreation of the Colombian people’s government is very serious. During the election campaign period, Vice President Francia Elena Márquez of Colombia suffered from threats of shootings and bomb attacks. Cepeda carried out the election campaign while facing not only misinformation and fake news but also death threats. On the other hand, Espriella received the public endorsement of Trump and the pro-US far-right presidents of El Salvador and Argentina, and is running a very advantageous election while colluding with the private corporation that manages the software and logistics of the Colombian presidential election. Meanwhile, this Colombian presidential election is evaluated as a miniature version of the ideological confrontation in the Central American continent. While Cepeda puts forward the end of the Colombian civil war, wealth redistribution, and independent diplomacy as major pledges, Espriella is advocating the implementation of martial law, putting forward the pro-US fascist regime of El Salvador as a role model.

The basic intention of the US electoral interference in Colombia is to block the “Pink Tide” trend by reducing Colombia to an outpost targeting Venezuela and Cuba. Before Petro came to power, Colombia was a strategic vantage point for imperialist aggression against Central America. While monopolizing information on drug cartels within Colombia, the USA maintains close relations with the military forces. Furthermore, it is fabricating the “Shield of the Americas,” rallying pro-US fascist regimes and threatening anti-imperialist people’s governments, while openly conducting aggressive war exercises throughout Latin America. Pointing to Colombia as “the core of the entire Western Hemisphere,” the Trump administration is maneuvering to block the establishment of a people’s government. The reason Espriella babbles that it is a “self-harming blackmailing act” when Petro declares the official withdrawal from the “Non-NATO Alliance” is not elsewhere.

The anti-imperialist and anti-fascist struggle will of the Latin American people and global humanity cannot be broken by anything. Following the kidnapping and illegal detention of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, US imperialism is deepening the blockade campaign against Cuba. Since September 2025, more than 200 cases of extrajudicial killings under the pretext of drug eradication have been viciously continuing until now in the Caribbean and the Eastern Pacific. Targeting Colombia, while slaughtering dozens of civilians through military attacks mobilizing the pro-US fascist power of Ecuador, it is even waging an “economic war” utilizing tariffs. Nevertheless, the Latin American people are launching large-scale anti-neoliberal protests and strikes against the pro-US neoliberal regimes and fascist far-right regimes of each country, and are not stopping their struggle, exposing and denouncing illegal fraudulent elections. The challenge of imperialism and fascism against the people of Colombia and Latin America can never succeed. The persistent and vicious campaign of imperialist USA to turn Latin America into its “backyard” will surely be shattered by the anti-imperialist and anti-fascist struggle of the Latin American people.
