Russia Successively Strikes Ukrainian Power Facilities

According to Ukrainian media outlet The Kyiv Independent, a thermal power plant owned by Ukrainian private energy company DTEK was damaged by a Russian attack on August 18.

DTEK thermal power plants have reportedly been attacked by Russia more than 230 times since the Special Military Operation in February 2022.

Ukraine’s state-owned energy company Naftogaz is also hit by Russian attacks.

Naftogaz stated on the 17th that it had been attacked by Russia 13 times over the past week and about 300 times this year. The company reported that Russia attacked facilities across Ukraine, causing severe damage to equipment and production capacity.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of winter preparations last month when appointing Serhiy Koretsky, Chief Executive Officer of Naftogaz, as the new prime minister. He stressed that “The priorities are clear–preparing for winter,” highlighting that Serhiy Koretsky is the right person for the prime minister position.
