On Dec. 8, the article on the Iranian official media published. It explained why Iran has not gone all-out in support of Assad.
The article said, “When ISIS emerged and security in Syria deteriorated, the Syrian government officially requested assistance from Iran. Iran’s involvement primarily consisted of advisory actions, supporting the Syrian army and providing strategic guidance. Despite limited use of regular firearms, Iranian advisors played a key role in helping the Syrian forces and citizens combat ISIS, ultimately leading to its defeat.”
“After ISIS’s defeat, Iran increased its advisory presence in Syria at the Syrian government’s request. However, Syria underwent significant transformations, including the emergence of more aggressive terrorists using diplomatic channels. Public sentiment shifted, and in regions like Aleppo, local alliances and strategic behaviors became more fragmented”, it added.
Also, it emphasized “Before the conflict escalated, Iran warned the Syrian regime about the risks of terrorist strengthening but felt these warnings were largely ignored. Despite Iran’s commitment to supporting Bashar al-Assad, his reliance on promises from Arab and Western nations weakened his position, ultimately leading to critical vulnerabilities.”
“The coup attempt against Assad highlighted the regional and international strategies to destabilize Syria. While Iran attempted to bolster Assad’s regime, his missteps and external pressures contributed to a precarious situation, with Iran continuing efforts until the last moment to prevent his fall”, it said.
