On the May 18, a lecture titled “Today’s International Situation Analyzed Scientifically” was held at Chosun University in Gwangju by Dimitrios Patelis, a member of the World Anti-Imperialist Platform and the coordinator of the Revolutionary Unification (Greece).
Dimitrios Patelis opened his lecture by emphasizing the importance of a scientific analysis of the capitalist system, stating, “Before discussing the political and economic crisis of capitalism, we must thoroughly analyze what kind of system it is using scientific methods.” He then went on to explain the historical development of capitalism.
He added, “We all know that capitalism and imperialism are not eternal. The unintended consequences of these flawed systems are leading to revolutions around the world.” Patelis firmly stated, “Although imperialist countries may appear to hold unipolar power and force monopolistic capital upon the world as so-called ‘global leaders’, the reality is quite different today.”
He particularly noted that “Socialist economies and socialist countries around the world are achieving significant victories against capitalism,” citing DPRK and China as representative examples.
In conclusion, he dismissed the current global situation as tantamount to a “World War III,” stressing the need to “formulate scientific strategies and tactics,” “fight against the propaganda spread by imperialist countries,” and “support the unity and empowerment of communist parties around the world to stand and fight together.”
A Q&A session followed the lecture.
In response to a question on “The significance of DPRK’s participation in the Battle of Kursk and its impact on the Korean Peninsula”, Patelis said, “For the first time, DPRK soldiers fought in Europe,” drawing a historical parallel by adding, “just as Greek soldiers once came here (to Korea) to fight.” He remarked that this was “an extremely interesting situation in terms of the future of humanity and the anti-imperialist front,” adding that both Russia and DPRK are nuclear powers with considerable military influence, making it unlikely that NATO would dare to confront them.
Responding to a question on “How to counter and refute pacifist arguments that claim ‘Russia is also bad for attacking, so both sides are wrong,’”Patelis stated, “The war in Ukraine is a complex situation and the beginning of World War III.”
He emphasized the importance of recognizing the nature of the proxy war, stating, “We must remember that this is a proxy war, and Ukraine is a proxy state. The massacre in Donbas was an attack and provocation against Russia, orchestrated by a proxy state led by the U.S., NATO’s propaganda that Ukraine was invaded is a lie.”
He concluded by saying, “We must prepare for a larger escalation,” and asserted, “We can win.”
The lecture concluded with loud applause, having deepened the audience’s understanding of the complex and shifting international landscape. All participants came on stage for a group photo.
