The U.S. has reportedly asked Israel to postpone a large-scale ground invasion of the Gaza Strip.
The Jerusalem Post reported on May 25, citing sources, that the United States recently asked Israel to postpone a full-scale invasion of the Gaza Strip.
The demands include combining the military operation with ceasefire negotiations with Hamas, the newspaper said.
Despite the U.S. demands, the Israeli military plans to take control of 75 percent of Gaza within two months and confine its two million residents to a limited area.
“Once a full-scale ground offensive begins, they will not withdraw from the occupied territories, even under future negotiations,” Israeli officials explained, ”which will complicate the prospects for a ceasefire.”
Israel launched Operation Gideon’s Chariot, which aims to retake the Gaza Strip, from May 16 and has been conducting air strikes since then.
