US media “DPRK, refuses to accept Trump’s letter”

On June 11, US media outlet NK News reported that North Korea had refused to accept a personal letter from US President Donald Trump addressed to Chairman Kim Jong Un.

NK News quoted an informed high-level source “Trump drafted a letter to DPRK leader Kim Jong Un with the goal of restarting the dialogue they had through three summits during his first term, according to the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to sensitivities around the outreach. Despite multiple attempts to deliver the letter in person, DPRK diplomats based at the U.N. headquarters in Manhattan bluntly refused to accept it, the source said.”

On June 12, a White House spokesperson told reporters that “the president remains receptive to correspondence with Kim Jong Un,” adding that Washington would like to build on “progress” made during talks in Singapore in 2018.

During the presidential election campaign, President Trump emphasized his friendship with Chairman Kim Jong Un and expressed his willingness to resume talks with the DPRK.
