As the NATO summit continued in The Hague on June 25, the World Anti-Imperialist Platform carried on its strong and determined struggle against NATO.
The day began with a rally where participants launched their protest with the powerful chant, “DISBAND NATO!”
Jozef Bossuyt, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Belgium, said, “We are fighting against the destructive force called the United States that seeks to dominate the world. Yesterday, NATO representatives said that NATO is creating peace. But NATO is not a peace organization; it is an organization that handles war.” He pointed out, “NATO was established in April 1949, and the first war based on a NATO base occurred just one year later, in Korea. Under the leadership of the United States, the Korean War was fought.”
He continued, “From the beginning, NATO was an organization related not only to the North Atlantic but to both the northern and southern parts of the world. It has also occupied many regions in Asia.” He called for struggle toward “a new era of peace.”
Stefan Petrov, International Committee Member of the Bulgarian September 23 Movement, emphasized, “It is very important that revolutionary forces, anti-establishment and anti-imperialist forces unite and resist against this conference,” adding, “Imperialists also act internationally. They unite as the most reactionary forces of humanity to continue dominating, plundering, stealing from, and colonizing the peoples of the world.”
He continued, “Zelensky, who still holds the presidency of Ukraine, maintains power without any legal basis. No elections have been held even once under the pretext of wartime conditions. In fact, the Ukrainian regime has been illegitimate since 2014, as a coup was carried out that year by neo-Nazi forces backed by the United States.” He raised his voice, saying, “Several national leaders came to this conference. Among them was Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who directly met with US President Donald Trump and said, ‘Peace with Iran will be possible thanks to the United States.’ How hypocritical that statement is!”
He went on, “These leaders are completely disconnected from reality. This international system, the aggressive alliance called NATO and its coalition forces, must be dismantled. And the peoples of the world must build an equal, fair, and just cooperative system.” He stressed, “The future of humanity lies in solidarity among nations, peaceful sovereign coexistence, and socialism.”
Victor Lucas of the Communist Party of the Peoples of Spain (PCPE), quoting a statement of solidarity with Iran from Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), warned that the US aggression against Iran would not contribute to stability in the Middle East, but rather clearly worsen an already complex crisis. He condemned the United States for pursuing hegemonic and belligerent policies, showing a reckless disregard for the lives and security of people around the world, and fueling an unpredictable cycle of violence and repression.
He stressed that world peace can never be a matter of negotiation, and that the path of force and confrontation leads only to destruction. He called on progressive forces across the globe to join the struggle for peace and dignity, and to continue building solidarity in the fight for justice and the right of peoples to self-determination.
Edmundo Albornoz of the Communist Party of Ecuador said, “We are gathered here to say stop the war. We will not forget what happened in Afghanistan, the bombing of Libya, the bombing of Yugoslavia. NATO is not a unit for peace. It is nothing more than a geopolitical tool of the United States.” He shouted, “We oppose NATO! Not one more euro for NATO!”
Dimitrios Patelis, representative of Revolutionary Unification from Greece, stated, “Today, due to illusions about their position within the current global power structure, the imperialist forces are carrying out aggressive actions to strengthen their hegemony and suppress the uprisings of anti-imperialist and socialist states.” He denounced, “They continue to extract superprofits across the world and, led by NATO—a militarized transnational power apparatus—are trying to construct a new form of global dictatorship.”
He added, “To fight against NATO is not merely to oppose a military alliance, but to fight against imperialist domination itself. It is a struggle for liberation, justice, dignity, independence, and the possibility of equal development for humanity.” He said, “We know that in the battles that took place in and around Iran over the past twelve days, it was the brave Iranian people who achieved victory. We stand with Iran, with the people of Donbas and the Russian people against NATO and its proxy state, Ukraine. We stand with the people of DPRK against the proxy state called ‘Republic of Korea’, and with the people of China against the proxy state called Taiwan.”
They ended with powerful chants: “Smash NATO!”, “Smash Imperialism!”, and “For Peace and Justice, Liberation and Solidarity!”
Following the rally, an anti-NATO propaganda campaign continued. Newspapers containing the World Anti-Imperialist Platform’s statement from the World Anti-Imperialist Joint Struggle on June 21 in The Hague, as well as the Hague–Amsterdam Declaration from the 8th International Anti-Imperialist Conference held on June 22, were distributed. Alongside the distribution, agitation against the NATO summit took place in various locations.
