On August 27, the Israeli army continued to pave the way for a large-scale military operation to take control of the densely populated Gaza City.
The Israeli military’s Arabic spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, warned residents on social media, “the evacuation of Gaza City is “unavoidable”. Every family that relocates to the south will receive the maximum humanitarian assistance.”
Israeli forces claimed that on the same day, a conflict broke out between the Givati Brigade, operating under Division 162, and Hamas fighters on the outskirts of Gaza City and in the nearby area of Jabalia. They stated that the troops eliminated a Hamas cell and located a weapons depot used for “terror attacks.”
The day before, Engineering Battalion 607, a newly established unit, was deployed to Gaza for the first time. This unit, which was formed in the aftermath of the October 7 attack, specializes in dismantling terrorist facilities and supporting troop movements.
On August 25, an Israeli strike on a hospital in Gaza killed five more journalists, bringing the total number of Palestinian journalists killed in the conflict to 247.
