“Condemn Threats Against Venezuela!” in front of US embassy in Seoul

On August 30, the People’s Democracy Party (PDP) in the ‘Republic of Korea (ROK)’ held the demonstration against the US imperialist military threats in Caribbean Sea.

Party members held banners reading “¡VENEZUELA NO ES UNA AMENAZA!” (“Venezuela is not a threat!”) in front of the US Embassy.

The protest came amid recent moves by the Trump administration to massively deploy US military forces to the Caribbean, adopting a posture of “total war” and slandering the Maduro government with false allegations of “links to drug cartels”—an act of outright infringement on Venezuela’s sovereignty.

Participants chanted slogans such as “¡Venezuela no es una amenaza!” “Stop US Aggression Against Venezuela!” “Smash Imperialist War Schemes!” “Victory to the Bolivarian Revolution!” and “Victory to Maduro! Victory to Venezuela!”

The head of the PDP’s Anti-US, Anti-War Special Committee declared:

“The arrogance of the United States has reached new extremes. US interference in Venezuela’s internal affairs now goes beyond sanctions and political pressure, taking on the form of outright military occupation. Eight warships, including three missile destroyers, a nuclear-powered submarine, and vessels redeployed from the Red Sea and the Pacific, have been stationed in the Caribbean, accompanied by more than 4,500 Navy and Marine troops capable of full-scale amphibious operations.”

She continued:

“The Trump administration’s pretext is a supposed ‘war on drugs.’ But Venezuela is a legitimate sovereign state, with President Nicolás Maduro duly elected through democratic procedures. Yet the US has labeled him the ‘head of a drug cartel’ and smeared Venezuela as a ‘criminal state.’ This is not about fighting narcotics—it is a clear attempt to threaten Venezuela militarily and topple the people’s government.”

The speaker emphasized that Venezuela, despite being one of the world’s largest oil producers, has suffered severe hardships due to U.S. imperialist sanctions.

“The US must immediately stop all military threats, lift its economic sanctions, and end political interference. We stand in solidarity with the Venezuelan people’s struggle against imperialism, and we will continue to march together with the peoples of Latin America for independence and liberation.”

Isabel Di Carlo Quero, Venezuelan ambassador in Seoul, read aloud a letter from President Maduro to UN Secretary-General António Guterres dated August 27. The letter listed US violations of the UN Charter and called on the UN to act decisively to halt US hostilities and guarantee Venezuela’s sovereignty as a peace zone.

The Secratery of the PDP’s Seoul Committee added:

“US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced the deployment of US naval and air forces to the Caribbean under the pretext of blocking drug cartels. They even slandered President Maduro as a ‘fugitive crime boss.’ On August 21, the US Navy’s Fourth Fleet deployed Aegis destroyers, amphibious assault ships, and submarines into the Caribbean waters north of Venezuela.”

He noted that US imperialism’s interference in Latin America is not new:

“Long before Trump, the US treated South America as its backyard, seeking to destabilize any government that raised anti-imperialist and independent voices. Venezuela, from the time of Chávez to Maduro, has endured waves of sanctions, terrorism, and coups instigated by Washington. What is new under Trump is the open threat of direct military action.”

He further analyzed:

“The reason is obvious. The US seeks to exploit the so-called ‘war on drugs’ as a means to reassert its power over its ‘neighbors,’ while plundering Latin America’s immense natural resources: rare earths, lithium, gold, oil, natural gas, light crude, copper, abundant food and crops, and vast freshwater reserves.”

He concluded:

“President Maduro invokes the spirit of Simón Bolívar, who liberated Latin America from Spanish colonialism, and prepares to resist US imperialism. Maduro remains the only legitimate president of Venezuela, chosen by the people through democratic means. The PDP and the World Anti-Imperialist Platform strongly support the Maduro government and the Venezuelan people, and we will continue to stand with the peoples of the world until imperialism collapses and genuine peace is won.”

A PDP youth member also delivered a speech in English condemning US military threats against Venezuela. The protest concluded with participants singing The Internationale.
