Ukrainian Drone Strike Sparks Fire at Oil Refinery in Northwest Russia

On September 14, a fire broke out at the Kirishi refinery in Russia’s northwest after a Ukrainian drone strike.

The Kirishi refinery is one of the two largest refineries in Russia. It processes 17.7 million tons annually, accounting for 6.4% of Russia’s total refining capacity.

The Ukrainian military confirmed the attack on the Kirishi refinery, claiming they “carried out a successful strike.”

The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that from the night of the 13th to the early morning of the 14th, its air defense systems shot down 361 drones launched by Ukraine, four aircraft-mounted guided bombs, and US-made HIMARS rockets.

Strikes on Russian energy facilities by Ukraine have recently surged.
