“We Will Go to Venezuela Ourselves”—Mexico City Municipal Workers Declare Formation of a Defense Brigade

Mexico City, November 10 — Workers from the Mexico City municipal government met with the delegation of the World Anti-Imperialist Platform in front of the Federal Tribunal of Conciliation and Arbitration (Tribunal Federal de Conciliación y Arbitraje). A representative of the Communist Party (Mexico) and party officials also attended the meeting.

The Mexico City municipal workers are currently engaged in labor-management agreements and are waging a struggle to improve their working conditions.

During the exchange, the delegation briefed the workers on the tense and rapidly developing situation in Venezuela. The delegation stated that “the US aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford has left the Mediterranean and is reportedly heading toward the Caribbean Sea and the waters near Venezuela, where it is expected to arrive soon.”

They warned that “US imperialism’s provocation against Venezuela is a provocation against all of Latin America. If Venezuela is overthrown, the next targets will be the oil-producing nations of the region—Mexico, Colombia, and Brazil.”

They concluded by emphasizing, “Now is the time for the workers and people of all countries to express their political support. The concrete form of that action is to organize Defense Brigades in every nation. Workers and peoples of the world, unite and fight together!”

In response, the workers of Mexico City declared, “We ourselves will go to Venezuela,” adding, “War could break out in Mexico at any time, either. Forming Defense Brigades now is just and necessary. The workers of Latin America and the world must unite and fight together against imperialist aggression.”

After meeting with the delegation, the workers of Mexico City continued their demonstration in front of the Federal Tribunal of Conciliation and Arbitration, demanding improved working conditions for the city government workers.
