According to foreign media reports on January 17, Venezuela and the United States have entered a concrete process to reopen their respective embassies, ending years of diplomatic break.
Venezuela’s interim President Delcy Rodríguez and representatives of the Trump administration maintained contacts at the prime ministerial and technical meeting levels to restore diplomatic relations. Both countries had kept their embassies closed since President Maduro’s declaration of severed ties in 2019.
During this meeting, technical aspects and preliminary schedules for the official reopening of the embassies were discussed.
Recently, CIA Director John Ratcliffe visited Caracas in person and met with Rodríguez. Ratcliffe sought to identify areas of cooperation on security and mutual interests and conveyed the US intention to build trust.
