Message from the President of WAPO to the People and Government of Niger

To the High Authorities of Niger

To the People of Niger!

It is with deep consternation that we have followed the events of the barbaric terrorist aggression perpetrated on Thursday, June 18, 2026, against the Niamey airport, which resulted in casualties among the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the civilian population.

The West African Peoples Organisation – WAPO (OPAO):

1. Expresses its indignation and condemns this terrorist aggression, which has struck the Niamey airport for the second time within a span of a few months.
2. Commends the bravery of the Armed Forces of Niger, who have demonstrated great resilience in the face of the imperialist enemy that stops at nothing to perpetuate its iniquitous system of exploitation.
3. Bows in memory of the patriotic fighters and wishes a speedy recovery to the wounded.
4. Proclaims the firm and constant solidarity of the peoples of West Africa with the Authorities and the people of Niger.
5. Recalls, if need be, the declaration made on behalf of WAPO at the international conference in support of the peoples of the Sahel on November 19, 2024, in Niamey, by the President of the Organisation, stating that “We suffer from your defeats and we rejoice in your victories,” thereby emphasizing the community of cause and interests that binds the peoples of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) to all the peoples of West Africa and Africa as a whole.

Long live the people of Niger! Long live the peoples of the AES! Long live Panafricanism!

C’est avec une vive consternation que nous avons suivi les événements de la barbare agression terroriste perpétrée le jeudi 18 Juin 2026 contre l’aéroport de Niamey ayant occasionné des victimes au sein des FDS et de la population civile.

L’Organisation des Peuples de l’Afrique de l’Ouest – OPAO (WAPO) :

1- S’indigne et condamne cette agression terroriste, qui frappe une deuxième fois l’aéroport de Niamey dans l’intervalle de quelques mois.

2-  Loue la bravoure des Forces Armées du Niger  qui ont fait preuve de grande résilience face à l’ennemi impérialiste qui ne recule devant rien pour perpétuer son système d’exploitation inique.

3- S’incline devant la mémoire des combattants patriotes et souhaite prompt rétablissement aux blessés.

4- Proclame la ferme et constante solidarité des peuples d’Afrique de l’Ouest avec les Autorités et le peuple du Niger.

5- Rappelle, si besoin en est, cette déclaration faite au nom de WAPO à la conférence internationale de soutien aux peuples du Sahel le 19 novembre 2024 à Niamey, par le Président de l’Organisation, selon laquelle ” Nous souffrons de vos défaites et nous nous réjouissons de vos victoires”, soulignant ainsi la communauté de cause et d’intérêts qui attache les peuples de l’AES à l’ensemble des peuples d’Afrique de l’Ouest et de toute l’Afrique en général.
