Struggle Unity (Turkiye): A Public Revolution Takes the Stage in Syria!

A Public Revolution Takes the Stage in Syria!

Not even two years have passed since the Ba’ath bourgeois regime in Syria, steeped in deep decay, collapsed due to internal betrayal, while the global bourgeoisie, imperialists, religious fascists, and all conceivable reactionaries cheered in triumph. The date was December 8, 2024.

A day later, on December 9, 2024, as soon as the fall of the bourgeois Ba’ath regime became certain and religious fascist gangs secured their takeover of the Syrian Presidential Palace, we answered those “cheers of victory” from this column with the title “What You Hear Is the Howling of Jackals,” adding:

“In the Middle East (Western Asia), a curtain has fallen and a new era has opened—an era that will pass with wars, conflicts, and upheavals. The fall of Syria is both an end and a beginning.”

We witnessed the “end.” The bourgeois regime, in deep decay, collapsed with unprecedented speed when combined with internal betrayal. Religious fascist gangs proclaimed their rise to power.

Yet in that same timeframe, the “new” was announcing its arrival, its footsteps echoing in various ways. Against the massacres, oppression, and terror of the religious fascist gangs, revolutionary mass actions and guerrilla-style armed operations against gang forces were already beginning to emerge. Less than a month ago in rural Damascus, news agencies reported: “A bomb attack targeted a bus carrying security forces in Syria.”

The photo of the riddled bus demonstrated the intensity of the attack. Similar strikes began surfacing periodically across different parts of Syria. Damascus itself—right under the gang leader’s nose—was no longer safe.

The massacres, oppression, and terror of the religious fascist administration, alongside economic crisis, deepening public misery, unemployment, and poverty reaching starvation levels, were preparing fertile ground for a deep social explosion. Syria had turned into a steppe ready to ignite at the slightest spark, and the situation continues to deepen in this direction.

On Sunday evening (13.09.2026), a hike in fuel prices ignited the steppe. Upon news of the fuel price increase, thousands first poured into the streets in the district of Ma’arrat al-Nu’man. Roads and vehicles were set ablaze. The streets took on the unmistakable look of every genuine uprising: the surroundings were ablaze.

The district of Ma’arrat al-Nu’man was at a critical crossroads. Sitting directly in the middle of the Aleppo, Hama, and Latakia triangle, Syria’s most crucial highways intersected in this district. Highways were cut off. Transport ground to a halt. Ma’arrat al-Nu’man was followed by the cities of Aleppo, Idlib, Al-Hasakah, and Deir ez-Zor. In a single night, virtually every major city outside the capital Damascus rose up.

One of the areas experiencing the fiercest uprising was Idlib, which the gang leader had used for years as his lair. Idlib had been a primary stronghold for the organization of the “Muslim Brotherhood” gang over long decades. Turkish intelligence services had established ties with the Muslim Brotherhood gang in this province for decades, attempting to organize reactionism here and turning it into a base against the Syrian government since the time of Hafez al-Assad. Now, when those explosive conditions accumulated to a certain point, the explosion manifested in its most violent form.

The conditions suggesting that a public revolution is taking the stage in Syria were not limited to this. At around the same time, when a compromise with the religious fascist gangs was considered a done deal, the people of Rojava took to the streets and clashed with the “Asayish” security forces tasked with maintaining order. The events began with the murder of a Kurdish soldier. When the Kurdish people, protesting the gangs’ rule and demanding the murderers be found, poured into the streets, the military forces of the gangs intervened. Dozens of Kurdish youths were taken prisoner and sent to dungeons. When the gangs sought to transfer the detainees to Aleppo Prison to subject them to severe torture, the situation escalated. The prisoners, refusing transfer to Aleppo, mounted resistance, and a fire broke out in the prison. Instead of opening the prison doors to let the prisoners out, the forces called Asayish locked the doors on them; nine prisoners lost their lives during the fire, and many others were rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

This conduct by the gang military forces and Asayish acted like pouring gasoline on fire. It brought the Kurdish people—already on edge and active due to the native language education issue—back onto the streets. The events quickly took the form of an uprising. The public engaged in street clashes with the forces called Asayish and began protesting the compromise made with the gang leader. Mazloum Abdi, an advisor to the gang leader, arrived in Kobanî to quell the uprising. The uprising, or the revolutionary mass movement bordering on an uprising, remains ongoing.

The imperialists, Turkey, and other reactionary states of the region, who toasted that they had “finished the job” in Syria, realized that they had in fact solved no problem. The gang leader named Jolani in Damascus lives in anxiety and fear, unaware of what tomorrow holds. The problems that the US and other imperialists claimed to have “solved” had accumulated, bringing the whole of the Syrian peoples to the brink of a public uprising.

The gang leader named Jolani cannot be sure of his tomorrow. How can the gang leader stand when the imperialist states he relies on face the collapse of their economies and social production? This uprising of the Syrian peoples may not ultimately result in the destruction of the structure established by the gang leader and his clique in Damascus. But the path has been opened. Revolutionary mass actions, rebellions, and uprisings will continue, albeit periodically, until these gangs get out. For they lack both the capability and the resources to eliminate the material conditions that gave rise to today’s uprising or to improve the material lives of the masses.

Therefore, we can now confidently state: a public revolution is taking the stage in Syria, and it will not leave the stage until victory is achieved!

Sokaklar, her gerçek ayaklanmanın vazgeçilmez görüntüsüne büründü: ortalık alev alevdi.

Maarat el Numman ilçesi kavşak noktadaydı. Halep, Hama, Lazkiye üçgeninin tam ortasında, Suriye’nin en önemli otoyolları bu ilçede kesişiyordu. Otoyollar kesildi. Ulaşım durdu. Maarat el Numman’ı Halep, İdlip, Haseke ve Deyr el Zor kentleri izledi. Bir gecede, başkent Şam dışında hemen hemen bütün önemli şehirler ayağa kalkmıştı.

Ayaklanmanın en şiddetli geçtiği yerlerin başında, çetebaşının yıllar boyu kendi ini olarak kullandığı İdlib oldu. İdlib, uzun on yıllar boyu, “Müslüman Kardeşler” çetesinin örgütlendiği yerlerin başında geliyordu.
