On this day 24 years ago, the criminal aggression of 19 member countries of the criminal NATO alliance against the people of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia began. On this occasion, members of the NKPJ and SKOJ, together with other patriotic and anti-imperialist organizations, paid their respects to the fallen soldiers and civilians at the “Eternal Flame” monument in New Belgrade. Also, the Russian Embassy and Cuban and Venezuela Ambassadors participated in this event.
The aggression lasted 78 days, and during it over 250 soldiers and policemen, about 2500 civilians were killed, while about 6000 people were wounded. On that occasion, a large number of infrastructure facilities were destroyed, and material damage was estimated at 100 billion dollars. As a result of the bombardment with depleted uranium, the incidence of cancer in Serbia increased many times, and the devastating consequences for human health are felt even today.
NATO criminals, led by the imperialist United States, began the aggression against our country as a form of support for terrorists from the ranks of the so-called “Kosovo Liberation Army”. NATO then, as now, did not defend the interests of the Serbian or Albanian people, but exclusively of the big capitalists of the member countries of this criminal alliance. The main goal was the occupation of Kosovo, as well as the overthrow of President Slobodan Milošević and the bringing to power of Western poltroons from the ranks of DOS.
The army and police of the FRY, as well as the entire working people, offered resolute resistance to both NATO troops and terrorists from the ranks of the KLA. However, the numerically superior NATO pact managed to impose the occupation of the southern Serbian province, which continues to this day. Today, Kosovo is home to Bondstil, the largest US base in this part of Europe, while the rich mines of Kosovo fill the pockets of capitalists from the West.
After Yugoslavia, NATO continued its criminal actions against free, anti-imperialist countries. Libya, Syria, and Palestine represent only some of the victims of executioners from the West. Today, in Ukraine, NATO is waging a war against Russia “to the last Ukrainian”. Ukrainian fascists, European greens, and liberals, as well as American conservatives, are fighting together to preserve the hegemony of the West in Ukraine and all of Eastern Europe.
