[Madrid Colloquium] Session 1 : Essence of the war in Ukraine and the Middle East

On June 8, Madrid, Spain, hosted the first day of a colloquium on “The situation of World War 3 and the anti-imperialist and antifascist struggle”.

Session 1 was held from 10:00 am to 11:45 am.

It began with a video by Tatiana Desiatova, First Secretary of the Moscow Region of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, followed by a presentation by Joti Brar, Vice President of the Communist Party of Great Britain (Marxist-Leninst) and spokesperson for the World Anti-imperialist Platform. Michael Tzimis of the Socialist Platform of Georgia and Amancay Riquelme, Central Committee member of the Chilean Communist Party (Proletarian Action), participated as panelists.

In the video, Tatiana Desiatova said that, “Only the consolidation of communist and workers’ parties and movements, people of labor from different countries of the world into a single anti-imperialist front, the deployment of the struggle against the bourgeois system, for socialism will open the way to the establishment of a stable and just peace on Earth,” and that “It is time to adopt the courageous and heroic experience of our ancestors, raising our voice against the ‘omnipotence’ of capital, and contribute to the approach of the victory of the working people!”

On the essence of the war in Ukraine, Joti Brar emphasized that “It began with the imperialist-directed fascist coup that ousted Ukraine’s elected government in 2014, and the antifascist resistance launched by the people of the Donbass against the coup regime,” and analyzed that “But Moscow’s launch of the SMO in February 2022, which brought Russian military forces to the support of the Donbass resistance, made a qualitative change to a war that had by then been ongoing for eight years.

“The war in Ukraine has exposed the military weakness of the imperialist camp,” she said, emphasizing that “now it is becoming clear that the west has lost its technological dominance, and with it the ability to enforce its will over the people of the planet.

“The west has insisted on prolonging the war for propaganda purposes, despite the obvious reality that it will never be able to win,” she said, adding that “the absolute inhumanity of imperialism has been clearly highlighted.”

Mikhail Tzimis noted that “Between September 2014 and February 2015, the Russian Federation, Ukraine, France and Germany signed several versions of the so-called Minsk Agreement to stop the fighting, but unfortunately the agreements were never implemented by the Kiev regime, resulting in more than 14,000 people lost their rights, life.

“Our days Russia might follows a capitalist pathway, but today is saving all the post soviet people from ethnic and religious conflicts, saves them from full absorption by the most dangerous American imperialism and saves the leftist and progressive forces from destruction,” he said, adding that “Russia is finally moving away from the harmful idolatry of the West, and the time has come to show its mettle in the Donbass.

“What the European Union, America and the West generally call the crimes of socialism as totalitarianism and Stalinism is that for the first time in history the working class took power from the bourgeoisie, socialized big business, organized the collectivization of agricultural production, defended popular power, socialism, punished the fascists and their collaborators and defended the people’s bread held by the rich bourgeois, the kulaks,” he continued.

Amancay Riquelme said, “The NATO regularly conducts military exercises in which ‘defensive attacks’ against Russia are rehearsed.” She added,  “It seems that the NATO member countries are urgently looking for a war against Russia. In January this year, NATO Admiral Rob Bauer called on the people of Europe to prepare for a war against Russia within the next 20 years!”

“In the face of NATO’s relentless escalation of warmongering, the overwhelmingly re-elected Russian President Vladimir Putin warned on 29 February this year that Russian weapons could also reach European territory,” she continued and claimed that “Russia’s struggle in Ukraine against NATO and fascism marks the beginning of the defeat of imperialism in the world.”
