Chinese special barges captured, analyzed as ‘Taiwan landing operation purposed’

A specially shaped Chinese military barge with a 120-meter bridge extending forward has been spotted near Zhanjiang, Guangdong province.

On March 14, foreign media reported that photos circulated on social media showing three new Chinese special barges deployed ashore. The three barges were also captured by satellite.

The barges are connected by several pillars and long bridges to form a long walkway. Experts said that the total length of the passageway made by the three barges is 850 meters, and the pillars can be lowered to make contact with the ground in bad weather to stabilize the ships.

In particular, military experts believe that the barges are intended for landing operations in Taiwan, meaning that they will be used to install the long bridges on the road beyond the beach and stably unload trucks, tanks, and other vehicles.

In January, the Financial Times (FT) reported that the Chinese military had built a “mobile pier” in preparation for an amphibious invasion of Taiwan. Taiwanese media also reported that the Chinese military is building at least five new special landing barges for Taiwanese landings at the GSI Shipyard in Guangzhou’s Longxue Dao area.
