The Paris International Colloquium marking on the 80th Anniversary of the victory of World War II, co-organized by the World Anti-imperialist Platform and the Pan-African Unitary Dynamics (DUP), was successfully held in Paris, France on May 10.
The third session “New Cold War and Internationalism (Imperialism’s New Cold War Machinations and the Revolutionary Strategy of the International Communist Movement),” opened, followed by a presentation, discussion, and Q&A.
The last session was moderated by the World Anti-imperialism Platform, with speakers by Dimitrios Patelis, Revolutionary Unification, Greece; Manuela Maj, CARC, and Miguel Ángel, Unión Proletaria, and Stephen Cho, Organizer of the World Anti-imperialist Platform and Coordinator of the Korea International Forum. Discussions were held by the DUP, URC, CPGB-ML, the Communist Party of Lebanon, and Communist Party of Belgium.
Dimitrios Patelis pointed out “Today, fascism is reconfigured underᅠtransnational monopoly capitalism, where global corporations and imperialist states (led by the U.S.) subordinate nations through economic and military coercion. Unlike 20th-century state-monopoly fascism, modern fascism is “exported” as a proxy force in hybrid wars.” “The primary enemy is theᅠunified U.S.-NATO-EU axis, which uses fascism as a weapon.”
He emphasized, “Anti-fascism must be subordinated to a broaderᅠanti-imperialist front, uniting socialist forces (e.g., China, Russia, BRICS) and oppressed nations. Opportunists who reject this (e.g., KKE’s “imperialist pyramid” theory) undermine the struggle.” and concluded “Fascism is inseparable from imperialism; both must be destroyed. The WWII victory proved that united popular resistance can triumph. Today, theᅠWorld Anti-Imperialist Platform must coordinate global resistance, exposing the U.S.-led axis as the root of fascism.”
Manuela Maj pointed out, “On the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazi-fascism, it is particularly important to develop the discussion on revolutionary strategy within the international communist movement. We are not only in the imperialist epoch, we are also in a revolutionary situation, one of war and revolution, similar to the situation of the first half of the last century.”
And she analyzed, “In the context of World War II, the communist movement defeated Nazism and fascism, but failed to establish socialism in any of the imperialist countries.” and “The disaster into which the imperialist bourgeoisie is dragging the popular masses of the whole world makes the establishment of socialism indispensable not only for the progress of humanity, but also for its survival, and is giving rise to an acceleration of class struggle throughout the world.”
Miguel Ángel said, “Capitalism is dragging us full speed ahead into a third world war, barely held back by the fear of mutual nuclear destruction. Given the present conditions and prospects, it has become even more opportunistic and criminal to settle for defensive propaganda that whines against the folly or immorality of the imperialists, thus unwittingly helping them keep the people frightened and powerless.”
And he said, “It is all very well to advocate anti-imperialist unity as the primary immediate objective, but we communists—especially in the imperialist countries—can only achieve the strength of the proletariat’s unity by educating and organizing within the Communist Party the most conscious sector of our class most willing to fight for the overthrow of the bourgeois political regime.”
Stephen Cho, Organizer of the World Anti-imperialist Platform and Coordinator of the Korea International Forum analysed, “World War 1 was an inter-imperialist war, World War 2 was an anti-fascist war, and World War 3 is an anti-imperialist war. Both World War 1 and 2 were provoked by imperialism, originated from its political and economic crises, and ended up intensifying those crises. Likewise, World War 3, also ignited by imperialism and born out of its ongoing crisis, is bound to deepen it even further.”
And he said, “The drive toward World War 3 by the imperialist warmongering forces is being disrupted by the counter-policies and setbacks pursued by the imperialist non-warmongering forces who have seized control of the US government.” “Amid the deepening military, political, and economic conflicts within the imperialist camp, the East Asian war—which would escalate World War 3 to full-scale confrontation—and the war in the “ROK,” its ignition point, are seen by the imperialist warmongers as the optimal means to suppress the retrogressive moves of the imperialist non-warmongering forces. For the imperialists desperate to ignite World War 3 and a war in East Asia, the war in the “ROK” has become not a matter of choice but an absolute necessity—their ultimate scheme.”
In the discussion, DUP said, “Africa is made up of neo-colonialist countries. Each country must liberate itself. The liberation from neo-colonialism is the most important issue facing the African people”.
Joti Brar said, “From anti-Zionism to anti-imperialism, this is the essential direction. “The reason why people in the West don’t think that World War III is already underway is because of the propaganda that World War III must be a nuclear warfare.” ”we have to make people realize the lessons of the last century.
Farah Ibrahim emphasized that “our struggle must be first of all a global anti-imperialist struggle (anti-Zionism), but also a struggle against pro-imperialist government (neoliberalism) in each country.”
Communist Party of Belgium said, “The movement for peace that has been going on since the Second World War is still going on. There is a strong movement against the war between Israel and Palestine and to expose the truth behind the false and distorted reports,” he said, adding that “it is important for the anti-imperialist and workers movements to work together.”
Regarding the situation in Korea, the World Anti-Imperialism Platform said, “The Korean Peninsula, which is still divided 80 years after liberation, is preparing for a civil war, a local war, and a war on “Republic of Korea (ROK).” This is because the U.S. is thoroughly colonizing “ROK” militarily, politically, and economically.” “it would not be strange if a war in “ROK” broke out immediately,” and said, “I think it is our mission to struggle under the anti-imperialist line.”
The participants commemorated the victory in World War II meaningfully and discussed the focus of the current situation and the tasks of the communist and anti-imperialist movements.
