Russia has issued a stern warning, including the possibility of a nuclear response, after a top U.S. military commander suggested that NATO could seize Kaliningrad—a Russian exclave—if conflict breaks out.
According to Defense News, U.S. Army General Christopher Donahue, Commander of U.S. Army Europe and Africa, stated during the “LandEuro” event in Wiesbaden, Germany on July 17 that NATO forces could “take that down from the ground in a timeframe that is unheard of and faster than we’ve ever been able to do.”
Russia strongly condemned Donahue’s remarks.
Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, said that “An attack on the Kaliningrad Region will mean an attack on Russia, with all due retaliatory measures, stipulated, among other things, by its nuclear doctrine.
