Xi Jinping: “SCO Forces Must Become a Driver of Universal Prosperity on Eurasian Continent”

On September 1, Chinese President Xi Jinping stated at the SCO+ meeting held during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit that “Let the SCO forces be a driver of universal prosperity on the Eurasian continent, fostering fruitful cooperation in the fields of politics, security, economy, trade, and cultural and humanitarian ties.”

He also stressed that “the SCO to become one of the key platforms for joint development and addressing the challenges that the countries of Eurasia are facing.”

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit, marking the 25th anniversary of its founding, was held in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, from August 31 to September 1. The summit was attended by leaders from 17 countries, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as well as representatives of six international organisations.

Experts assessed the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meeting as demonstrating that, despite US and Western sanctions and pressure, the Eurasian security and economic bloc centred on China and Russia remains intact.
